Could be one of several things

1. Urinary track infection - check with vet.
2. Litter box is dirty - clean it more often.
3. Bad behavior - put in a room you can clean up - Laundry room for example with the food, water and a cat box.

If your cat has an infection you still might need to do 3 for a while till he feels better.

I had this problem when my daughter went off to college. The vet agreed that that is was behavioral. We cured it by putting her in a small room (we used a spare bathroom) with food, litter box, bedding, water. Cleaned it up every day and checked on her. She cried but in a few days we let her out. The course had to be repeated a couple times after, but she hasn't done it in months. Seems mean, but it works. Good luck

First to clean smell use vinegar and water, it gets rid of it so he wont hit same spot. You try a couple of things. Sometimes just moving cat box, can help. He most likely has a behavioral problem and is unhappy with something. When my boyfriend started sleeping over my cat started peeing on my bed. Cats can get jealous

If its a problem you've never had before, you might want to check with your vet. It could be his way of telling you something is wrong. It could be a urinary tract infection, or bladder or kidney infection. Possibly bladder crystals or kidney stones, making it hard for him to hold it. He has no other way to show you he's having a problem. Also, how long ago was he neutered? Alot of times recently nuetered cats get an infection, which will cause incontinance. Start with a visit to your vet. See what happens from there.
