I mean besides view them with a projector. I want to know how I can put them on disc or to my computer. Is there something I can buy to do this myself? I have a lot of them and I know it would be quite costly to have it done by a professional. Thanks for any ideas.

Yes and I highly recommend the HP Scanjet series 4000 which now retails at under around £80 (approx $120). It does normal photos and slide scans - the slide scanner is built into the lid so no need to change over to an different attachment when changing between slides and normal scans. It scans as jpgs up to 19,200 dpi (who needs that) and images can be burned to CD easily. I use it at a professional level for high quality prints from slides and for web based images. You can see the scans at http://raimes.com

If you don't want to lose the resolution and details, you are going to have to bite the bullet and get a good film scanner. The Nikon Coolscan V ED will go up to 4,000 dpi resolution. There is a slight learning curve, but it's a great piece of equipment. Minolta makes one that is probably comparable in the same price range, which is about $550. There is another company that I am not familiar with called Pacific Image that makes several slighly lower resolution film scanners for about half the price.

There are other Nikon products as well as some by other manufacturers. I chose the Coolscan V ED because a review in Popular Photography said that the dynamic range of the V ED was greater than perceived by the human eye and that's good enough for my purposes.

Here's a link to a lower priced scanner that would also be suitable:

You can buy slide/negative scanner to do the work. Most of the models out there have very good resolution and resonable price ($150-$250). They can scan very fast and save the image into your computer. If you have a lot of slides, that is a good investment. If you only need to scan few slides, you better take them to your local photo store to do it without having a $200 investment. Costco has 2 model of scanner in very good price, here are the links:

Hope this can help you.

you can actually use any scanner, you'll have to select the area that is the image. you should also scan at the highest resolution you can. I work in an art history department & we are scanning slides at 2400 resolution. Takes a while but it's a high high high quality result.

It would be hard to say any one section. It depends on what the asker was looking for. Oh, and Mel, is that how you got all those best answers? You are so clever. But didn't that take the fun out of it? Cheating to me was never fun. Always made me feel crummy. Was never my proudest moments

If you still have a projector... show them and take pictures with a digital camera... the screen should be bright enough to get decent quality.
