excuses like "im afraid of what my parents/family/friends will think". I dont believe i received a memo that said i had to have 'permission' to date. are people, particularly gurls/women, afraid to stand up for themselves????

She was trying to be nice leave her alone. What is wrong with beautiful intelligent black girls? Why do you prefer ruining someone Else's life? If someone were harassing my daughter after she told you no you would tote one. I am not racist no race is superior. But mixing just because it is trendy is wrong. Besides you already said you were married.

Well, I'm in an interracial marriage and have been for almost 20 years.

Yes, in the end you love who you love and you should go with that rather than seek the "permission" of others. But you also have to realize the other side of the coin:

Racial prejudice is cruel, mean spirited and damages people. Until you've been denied restaurant service, been insulted by a gang in front of your wife and children, been essentially chased out of a mall store, and other similar experiences, you have no idea what the face of racism really does to you and to your relationship.

It could be simply that those who haven't yet committed to an interacial relationship are weighing whether that kind of baggage is really worth it...and you know what? THEY OUGHT TO.

Note: I'm Asian American, married to a beautiful woman of Italian / Spanish descent. Northern California STILL has a great number of cruel bigots, and you don't want to know what we've endured in Kansas City, Texas and Orlando. Hawaii is, still, about the only place I can guarantee I won't be treated like a second class citizen. And I'm not the kind of guy to "play the race card" or get all antagonistic about these kinds of things. It just saddens me i still encounter it as much as I do in 2006.

Best to you.

Alot of it has to deal with the way you were raised and how your parents are. Some people just live in those times and the kids grow into that. What has to happened is, the kids will open the eyes of the parents. That's how it normally works. Then again you do get the "kids" who are afraid of what the parents will say but if they love someone then they love someone. Step up to the plate and get what your.

A buddy of my is a black german kid and his wife is half russian half german. He told me that for the longest time her parents did not like him because he was black but over the years they have grown to accept him and his family.

That's what I mean by standing up to the plate to get what's yours.

They are afraid of the reaction people will have seeing them dating interracially. I am in an interracial relationship and I don't care about peoples' reactions that I am dating a white man.

You "hate" white ladies on the grounds which you're terrified of being stated as a sellout and that Mommy won't approve? Ridiculous. you do not sound mature adequate to this point in any respect yet, even at 21.

Maybe they know their family/friends are racists and don't want the person to feel the burn of their friends/family's attitude. Maybe when it comes right down to it, they don't love the person enough to want to deal with it. Maybe they find the differences intriguing enough to date, but not for a long-term commitment.

It is stupid. My wife and I are different races, and I get some flack as she does from my in-laws. it isn't fair but I think you are on the right track. If you love someone you love them, go for it. Move away if you have to, but don't kick yourself in the *** because of another persons opinion.
