I had a c-section about 7 weeks ago and I still look 4 months pregnant. My daughter doesn't latch on properly so I am pumping the milk. I know breastfeeding helps the body lose the weight. I wanted to know if its the actual sucking that will help the hormones be released to help shrink the stocmach/uterus and can I get the same effect with breast pumping.

For a little while it will help you lose weight but if you only pump your milk gets less and less. Keep trying to get her latched on... Even though it's a struggle now it'll be worth it later.... If you want tips you can go to babycenter.com or e-mail me (look on my profile) Good luck

Yes, the pump will still cause the uterine contractions that shrink your uterus, BUT this will not shrink your tummy. By this point your uterus should be pretty close to it's normal size. Any additional weight around your stomach is going to mostly likely be left over "baby fat" and you are going to have to work up an exercise routine and a weight-loss plan to help burn that off. Don't forget that it took 9 months to put it on, so it will take a little while and some effort to get rid of it.
A more concerning issue is with your daughter not latching on properly. The more you feed with a bottle, the less likely you will be able to get your child to breastfeed, it's a downward spiral. Also a pump is not as effective as the child, and you will gradually lose your milk if your baby does not begin breastfeeding. You should contact your local La Leche League and get some help with this as soon as possible.

It is the same effect. Pumps can be a little less effective at completely emptying the breast.

Its the removal of the milk that causes the body to continue to produce hormones, and the stimulation of the nipples is what helps the uterus contract and reshape. The extra calories required to produce the milk is also what helps you lose weight.

Its not a sure fire thing that breast feeding will cause you to jump right back into your pre pregnancy clothes, but it is more helpful than not.

Pumping has the same effect. Give it time it's only been seven weeks. After breastfeeding I had lost all of my baby weight and then some by the fourth month.
