That is a good question and I don't know. The powers that be apparently think a person is too irresponsible to have a beer at 18 but I mean a person in the usa can vote, drive, get married, have children, work and go to war before they are 21 and all of those require a whole sh*t load more responsibility than having a stupid beer..I think having the beer drinking age at 21 instead of 18 is moronic at best

Nothing, if you don't care about side-effects. The younger a person is, the more likely they are to cause developmental disabilities. Alcohol is a poison which kills brain cells, and other cells too. Before you're 21, you may not have finished growing. Many people have had growth spurts even later. Some organs, like liver, kidneys, and brain, are adversely affected by even small amounts of alcohol. Why take the chance? You see from the other answers that you are already being judged and found wanting. Be all you can be, and when you're legal, enjoy in moderation.

You will forget how to spell...Nope that already happened...lol. No on a serious note it is believed that people under 21 do not have the ability to tell when they have had enough or have the responsibility to do so. There is an age on Alcohol just to prevent younger people from getting messed up. Now on the other hand it will not do anything to you unless you drink it in excess then you can have liver problems and other alcohol related problems. Alcohol can impair your thoughts and reaction time thus causing more accidents. The younger you are the lower your tolerance level.

Because if you can't spell sober - imagine what would happen if you had a drink?

It has been determined that there are people under the age of 21 (yes, and over) who are not responsible enough to handle alcohol and use it for the wrong reasons. After a tragic accident, where 4 beautiful girls where killed due to their alcohol consumption, the drinking age was raised.

It's a bit silly. It's assumed you're responsible enough to, vote, get married, go to war and be tried as an adult, but you're still too young to have a few beers.

This sort of thing only serves to worsen drinking amongst minors. Alcohol shouldn't be some sort of mystic taboo, if it was gradually introduced to people instead of being temptingly off limits then teens wouldn't feel half as eager to drink themselves stupid. Personally I think the drinking age should be 18.

The limit was raised from 18 to 21 in the US to largely combat underage drunk driving. It did substantially reduce this and helped prevent some problem drinking in teenagers.

It sucks to take on the responsiblities of an adult, though, and not be able to legally drink.

17, and yeah. however the element that gets me is that it is not led to by using all and sundry. it variety of feels like all and sundry's is attempting to slot in with society, which became fantastic while it became skirts or Rock n roll (ignoring the 70s here) yet now its quickly nutrition, something lustful, having the latest technologies, being the superb troll you're able to be....the checklist is going on and on. in spite of this, i'm useful (and hoping) somebody will make a controversy saying why we at the instant are not doomed.

One Suppose to have bad judgment under the age of 21...but it only leads to everyone under 21 in the US to try before they turn that age....forbidden fruit.....

In Europe there is no legal age and there is less alcoholism.

Age 21 is considered to be the age where people are probably mature enough to make sound decisions. One of the first effects of alcohol is to interfere with the decision making process. Doing so on a person whose decision-making ability isn't very mature to begin with is just asking for trouble.

Also, kids who start drinking at younger ages are much, much more likely to develop problems of alcohol dependency when they get older. Trust me - you really, REALLY don't want that to happen.

ROFL!! I was basically going to say because ppl under 21 obviously can't spell when drunk. The person who suggested 25 I totally agree. Also the forbidden fruit theory was good also.
