This is a polarizing issue, with many attempts to create definitions that fit political agendas.
However, I think your definition fits best with the sanctity of human life. The reason being that it aligns with many people's religious beliefs, in a diverse society where they should matter, not rule, but should matter. Human potential is set at the moment of conception, and I believe in life and potential.
In very simple terms, the debate has turned to focus on the life of the mother, rape, etc. There was a statistic that these sorts of abortions only accounted for a fraction of a % of all abortions. Therefore, abortions were being used for convenience and for making poor life style choices. The victim is the unborn child.
Then, the graphic image that is used is should a woman go in an alley with a coat hanger. No, society should hold the male to account for the support of the woman and pregnancy. A support system needs to be in place, that is not in place today. No one wants a woman to be in the position that her only option is a coat hangar, or that many babies have to be killed to prevent this rare choice.
Last, if you believe in that we are random quirks of nature, then, in the grand scheme of nature, whether you, I, or an unborn baby lives or dies, does not matter. You are coming from a religious standpoint. Those who are not religious, realize that existance does not matter, except to themselves and whatever belief system they have. In their case, abortion is a no-brainer.
The point it is, it is not a no-brainer for everyone. There are people who are in despair over the slaughter of innocent babies. Baby is the right term by the way. Ask any mother, and father when the baby starts to kick at 8-12 weeks if they are feeling a fetus, or a baby. It is a baby. Fetus is a medical term for a baby in the womb. It is still a baby.
Hope this helps.

Why does everyone keep pointing fingers at Pro-Choices as if WE are ALL having abortions???? I have never had an abortion and don't plan on it either... I got "fixed". I am not going to run around telling all these other women they can't have an abortion when it is Legal. I am not going to sit and worry about those women and what they do with their bodies when we have homeless children on the street that No One seems to care about.
IMO, The father should have a say... but from what I have seen, a lot of women are having abortions because the father runs out on them. And the women are usually young, sometimes still living at home with parents that would probably throw them out because their "precious child was deflowered". I have seen this time and time again. And everyone jumps on the Pro-Choicers thinking that because they agree that there is a Choice, as it is Legal and IS a Choice, that they must all be out having abortions and lauging their asses off about it.
Why is it so hard for people to actually look into these things and find out WHY???????
BTW, how many homeless children are you adopting?

Biblically in Luke, the fetal John the Baptist lept for joy over the fetal Messiah Jesus while both were in their mothers wombs... Jesus was 6 months earlier ...so 1st term or sooner
interestingly you notice in the Scott Peterson double murder case, the fetus was considered legally as a person... interestin eh
in the end, according to the book Politically Correct Death by Bequith, although we bagan with a Roe Vs Wade in 73 where stae were not to interfere in the first 3 months, but could after that, it has been virtually extended to the full 9 months and legislation limiting it will face many legal test. Sadly almost everyone considers a late term fetus to be a child and yet it is a legal nothing and is vulnerable to harm in what should be the safest place in the world.
Also, in Roe vs wade the courts made no declaration whether a fetus was a person or wasnt, in fact they declared themselves unqualified to say. Maybe it is maybe it isnt.... so in the legal balance an unborn woman gets no rights and may be destoyed if convenient.
Everyone agrees life begins at conception. The issue is when does human life begin. Thats a tougher one. We know a late term child in the womb before and after will carry over memories, will play... we know an earlier term child will play in the womb and repsond to music or pain... we know a fetus develops pretty gradually and continually ... I would conclude it is wisest to protect it early as possible and a little reckless to not protect it while in the mother;s womb.
It is a difficult issue. Adoption is a good option , one a woman can look back on with no regretsand I applaud women such as my cousin who have the courage and compassion to carry the baby to term and place it in a good home, possibly their own.

This is never cut and dry as we would like. Pro-choice is just that a choice. Women need to know what options they have - Birth Control, abstinence, adoption, abortion, or parenthood. Pro-Choice means access to all of that information not just pro- abortion. Each woman needs to have all the information on all of these choices. There are many reasons a woman looks into abortion and it is never an easy decision. She has to live with the choice she makes - you don't. The argument that abortion stops a beating heart is incorrect unless the procedure is performed after 6 weeks and providing the fetus is alive. Many abortions are preformed when a fetus dies in utero and fails to be expelled causing a risk of infection to the woman. The limited information anti-anti-abortion and so called "pro-lifers'(who will kill adults to make their point) is truly limited. Volunteer at a women's center and find out for yourself why all of this information is necessary.

Forcing a woman to carry a fetus that she does not want is tantamount to slavery. The government cannot hold a non-criminal captive against their will. The 13th Amendment declared that involuntary servitude is against the constitution.
Life does not begin at conception. If that were true, you would never be able to have in-vitro fertilization clinics because most of the embryos are not inserted into the women wishing to become mothers. Instead they are discarded as medical waste. The same is true for an embryo that happens to form within the mother. A human is only alive when it is able to live outside its mother's womb. Prior to that, it's a component of the woman's body, and she and only she has control over that body.

Before the age of viability it is not a baby it is a fetus. It is only alive because the mother makes it that way. Take that fetus out and it cannot survive on it's own, that is what is different. If it cannot survive even with the most basic of medical life support it is not a baby.
When men can conceive and people try to twist their arm to keep a child they may or may not want then perhaps they will have a say. He does not give up his body for nine months.

in easy terms a heads up...you gets a good number of detrimental comments for this submit! Anywho, i can fully see the place you're coming from. yet i think of there are particular circumstances wherein abortion would desire to be an option for persons, and decrease than those circumstances - i'm professional-selection. As for utilising abortion as a sort of beginning administration, i'm completely against it. i assume I kind of sense like there would desire to be obstacles, tremendously because of the fact it truly is alive. It irks my nerves to take heed to those that're pass out and have unprotected intercourse, and then do no longer desire to stand the implications so as that they only decide to terminate the being pregnant. Its irresponsible. yet, I understand an abortion if a fetus has a severe ailment which will jeopardize his existence or if the mummy's existence is in possibility. certainty be recommended, people will do what they desire to do in any case, inspite of who does ot would not agree. everybody is entitled to their own critiques appropriate to the situation.

Life is precious in Jehovah God's eyes. At Psalm 139:14-16, "I shall laud you because in a fear-inspiring way I am wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful, As my soul is very well aware. My bones were not hidden from you When I was made in secret, When I was woven in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw even the embryo of me, And in your book all its parts were down in writing, As regards the days when they were formed And there was not yet one among them." Also, at Exodus 20:13, "You must not murder." And, again at Exodus 21:22-25 states: "And incase men should struggle with each other and they really hurt a pregnant women and her children do come out but no fatal accident occurs, he is to have damages imposed upon him without fail according to what the owner of the woman may lay upon him; and he must give it through the justices. But if a fatal accident should occur, then you must give soul for soul, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, branding for branding, wound for wound, blow for blow." (NWT) The Almighty God Jehovah is our Grand Creator. He knows more about us than we could ever know. So, when I have a concern about something, I first seek God's view on the matter.

A zygote does not have a heartbeat. A tick would also be dependent on me, it doesn't mean I have to allow it. As for the father, it depends on the situation. If a guy gets a girl pregnant and dumps her as soon as he finds out, I feel he should have no say. He wouldn't have been involved in the first place. If it's a couple, they need to make the decision together. And in the case of rape or incest, the father doesn't deserve a say in the matter.

At conception there is no heartbeat that doesn't happen for 22 days. If the embryo was to be removed from the mother it would not survive even at 3 months it would die. I feel the father has no say in what happens to my body that is my choice. You are entitled to your opinion, don't have an abortion but I am a strong believer that abortion should remain legal (it will still happen regardless) women are just in a medical environment.
Again define life, living in poverty, in a home where your not wanted, with a quality of life with no quality of life. Do you force a young girl or mature woman to give birth to a child conceived by rape or incest?
