You dont get automatically signed up. They can get your info from school records, or if you have a drivers license. You do have to fill that card out and send it back to the post office, because it is a law that all males of the age of 18 sign up for selective service. If you don't you will not be able to vote until you do. Also you cannot get scholarships or federal aid for school until you do. It does not mean that you have to join the military, it just says that if there is ever a need for more military service that you are old enough to serve.

They have your records from social security department. It is the law that you MUST fill out the card and send it in. You are not considered signed up until you fill out the card. If you don't your in violation of the law and any hope of federal assistance will be gone when it comes to college loans and the like I haven't heard of anyone getting jail time so far.

They just know you're about to turn 18 (from your SS information). You have to go down to the local Post Office to formally fill out the selective service card within (I think) one month of your birthday.

No, you are not automatically signed up. Normally you have to go to the post office to sign up for the SSS. However, if you filled out a fafsa to get federal aid to go to college, then you probably filled out the SSS information without really knowing it. That is how i got signed up. You cannot recieve federal student aid without being registered.
