I have to get 4 teeth pulled for braces...Friday Im going to the dentist for a cleaning/check-up and they are going to decide if they want to pull 2 at one visit 2 at another, or 4 in all one visit. I kinda wanna get all 4 done at once so they can heal at once and I can get braces on faster, but I also want the healing time to go smooth. Should I get all 4 done at once or get 2 at one visit, then go back 2 weeks later and have the other 2 pulled?????? HELP I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO!!!

I usually give my patients the option to do all 4 or go 2 left/2 right. My personal choice would be to do it over 2 visits. This way you will still have one side of your mouth to chew with comfortably. Getting numbing on both the left and right is hard for some patients to deal with (biting their tongue, difficulty swallowing).

I only do 2 at a time, one side at a time. It can be a bit much for most patients to have all 4 done at the same time - more numbness, more post-op discomfort, more bleeding. Sutures (stitches) or clotting sponges would be advisable.
But there's no technical reason why you can't have all 4 done together, except to watch the total dosage of local anaesthetic. I'm assuming that your're an early teenager, and therefore less than 70kg (155lb). In which case the total permissable dose has to be adjusted to your weight. It should still be well within your limit if used juduciously, but I would mention this to your dentist and ask him to calculate the limit. If he knows his stuff, then he can do it in a minute.Some dentists are too blase about this, and most overdosages occur with children.

Get 2 and 2. 2 times the laughing gas. Don't worry. It's a fun experience. Hell, I wouldn't mind getting a few more of my teeth pulled just so I could get some more of that.

hey its okay when i got braces i was 13 and i got 4 teeth pulled out too, 2 from the top and 2 from the bottom and it was fine, they all healed and it didn't even hurt getting them pulled out so i say go for all 4, good luck and remember paracetemol really helps ;) xx

usually it's better to get all the teeth out at the same time, so the healing is smooth (on both sides of the mouth). dentists typically do four at a time usually.

i've gotten teeth pulled (3) and it was fine. it's cool to get multiple teeth pulled, and it speeds up the process of getting your braces on. go for four.

why do they want to pull the teeth - and which teeth are they? kind of important to know b4 I answer.
my kids ortho doesn't believe in pulling teeth.
did you get a 2nd opinion?

I agree with Dr. Matt and LitMatch... I think it's nice to have one side left to chew on, but some people just want to get it over with!

I had 8 pulled all at one time and they were all "permanent" teeth.
It was OK, that's what pain pills are for.
