I'm not sure I understand who exactly your trying to slam.

illegal immigrants for not learning the language and just forcing Spanish onto America.

Or people who believe that the US should remain largerly (at least in the public sector) a single language nation.

I do not believe myself to be a racist but I do believe that the U.S. should not be using Spanish Language in public places or on signs or anything like that. I believe part of what made this nation so great is the ability to go from one end to the other and the larger majority of people speak the same language. To me it is a size issue. In Europe you have many countries each with their own languages many about the same size as the states in the U.S.. Having many different languages unless your willing to learn multiple languages makes moving around a difficult task and learning a new language is not easy for many people. To me intolerance would be a person not willing to help someone who is willing to learn English. To me intolerance is a person not willing to understand cultural differences. But at the same time intolerance is also someone wanting to take advanage of what our nation provides it's leagal citizens without bothering to come to the country leagally and without being willing to learn the basics about the language that is used.

Shame is not a factor.I speak,Spanish and a couple of other languages. But if I was going to live and work in a country that the majority spoke another language than my native one, then I would damn sure try to learn that language. That's just the intelligent thing to do.Its common sense.

Both have good points.

In order to become a true citizen of the United States it is imperative you learn the national language. Also though, you must consider the complexity of our language when answering this question. I think it is important for an American citizen to speak english.

That said, if you are here illigally finding work I believe it is wrong to mooch off the riches of our citizens doing crap word for less pay. I think in order to work in the United States you should be forced to become a citizen. I think there should be leanience for people who are in the process of becomming legal or maybe the process it takes to become legal should be easier.

Either way, my answer would be both. Racists should have more tolerance, but then they wouldn't be racist. Illigals should know how to speak english if they plan to get work in an english speaking place, but they most likely will not have the resourses to do so.

No one should shame anyone. Racists and illegals are both in the wrong. And btw, not all illegals speak Spanish. People keep saying the anti-illegals are racist but look at what you put in the question.

Put away the race card. It doesn't work anymore. Didn't you ever read the story about the little boy who cried, "Wolf!"?

If you want to live in this country, learn to speak the language. We have teachers, policemen, and firefighters who are being forced to learn Spanish or lose their jobs. We are in America. We speak English. If you can not communicate in an emergency, that is YOUR problem.

There is absolutely nothing racist about expecting people who come to your country to be citizens to speak your language. I would never move somewhere if I did not speak the language, and I certainly wouldn't expect the country to cater to my language barrier.

Do a little research about other countries and see how they treat illegal aliens. We are kitty-cats. See how they treat naturalized citizens. In most countries, they do not have the same rights as natural-born citizens - no matter how long they are there.

The least they (spanish speaking immigrants) could do is learn english. Why should I provide, through tax dollars, interpreters for these individuals so that they can walk into government office buildings and ask for more taxpayer money?

People in America should speak English.

People coming here should come legally, embrace our culture, be loyal to America alone and not claim the land they now illegally occupy was stolen.

Or whine about racism.

So, let me get this straight....illegals are now a race? Has it gotten THAT bad now! Damn. I think we should classify people by this new system that will work out great!

American citizens

Non American citizens

There! What dose every one think about this classification system! Quit worrying about race!!! Start worrying about illegals!! They need to get out of our country! They are poison, they are the disgrace of Mexico. Who turns tail in run when there economic problems get worst. That is the difference between an American and a illegal....right there. Americans will FIGHT through our problems...we will not run to another country when our economic crises arises! We stand WITH our country, not let it die slowly! Every illegal should be Ashamed!!! Be ashamed for comming into anothers country and breaking threre laws. Be ashamed for stealing for what dose not belong for you. And be ashamed for turning your back on your own country, when it needs you the most.

No one should try to shame anyone at all. We all have opinions and even if we differ in our thoughts we as well balanced human beings should be able to respect one another without using racial slurs and degrading remarks

You should be ashamed for being so ignorant that you don't know the real definition of "racist". We are sick of the brown card. It doesn't hold water.
