My husband always wants me to volunteer. What are some good community projects I could consider in Atlanta?

I'm not from the Atlanta area but I can tell you if you are really into volunteering, not just because your husband wants you, try your local fire department. Even if your not interested in being an emergency responder(i.e. fire fighter, E.M.T., fire police officer) there is always a need to help in fund raising, or working with Ladies Auxiliary. These are men and women volunteers who among a great deal of other things bring food and drink( which is especially wonderful when it's freezing outside) to us fire fighters when there is a long fire call. They are irreplaceable.

What do YOU want to do? Why does he want you to volunteer? These are better questions you should be asking yourself than where you should go... of course if you agree with him, then that's different but volunteering is something you do because you want to. Pick something that is of interest to you, if you like children, volunteer as a reader at the local hospital, or at the Atlanta childrens centre - http://www.atlantachildrensshelter.com/PDFs/Volunteer_Application.pdf#search='atlanta%20volunteer'. Try the SPCA or local animal shelter if you like small pets. Most large areas like Atlanta would have something for you if you have special skills - like accountant, secretary etc. Places that often use volunteer help for these things could be your local cancer centre, or any other organization that relies on charitable donations.

Get involved in ex-offender reentry programs. Some are through the Adult Parole Authority and some are established in the faith based community. Helping ex-offenders thrive on the outside helps us all survive through the future.
