A one-night stand is a single sexual encounter between individuals, where at least one of the parties has no immediate intention or expectation of establishing a longer-term sexual or romantic relationship. The individuals participating in a one-night stand typically have not known each other long and have had minimal time to get to know each other before engaging in sexual activity. A one-night sexual encounter is not necessarily always a one-night stand; the crucial distinction is the expectation or intention that the relationship will not necessarily be extended beyond the initial sexual encounter. A one-night stand is differentiated from prostitution, as it takes place without money or any coercion. In Western society, there is often a social stigma associated with one-night stands, reflected in the phrase "Walk of shame", wherein a participant in a one-night stand has to go home in the morning wearing clothes that were worn the previous night. As the name implies, the relationship only "stands", or exists, for one night.

Because no one will stand for each other after they get what they want that one night. Only the plumbing is of consequence, and not the person, at least not after the task is completed. It is truly rare for the biological act to take more than one night.

I like the terminology of NSA No strings attached vs one night stand which has a negative cheap dirty sort of connotation. If you want to have sex with a lady for a single time or whatever, doesn't no strings attached say it in a nice positive way.

yeah I hear you, hardly ever happens standing,, fun to try though

I think maybe spend 100 hours together first, talk, get tingly, then plan for 100 one night stands at least, or NOT worth it I think. Too much emotionally and too much disease risk.

If she was cute enough , after a few beers maybe I would though, with condoms.

Basic English!

"Stand" means being in some specified state or condition.

See examples:
- "I stand corrected"
- "Customers of long standing".

However, if you are particularly naughty, you might claim that "stand" indeed refers to the act of standing upright (figuratively) on part of something quite necessary for operational success in such a transaction.
