I recently fostered a litter of 11 for my local animal shelter. They had kennel cough when I picked them up but it cleared up with antibiotics within a week. A few days later, they started to die suddenly. This was a mixed litter ranging from 2 weeks to 5 weeks old. After the 4th puppy died I returned the remaining pups to the shelter for testing where they told me the pups had Toxemia and even though I had rid them of most of their fleas in the week they were here, they also had flea anemia--something about the Toxemia weakend their ability to make blood cells lost from the fleas. She told me to wash everything in the house with a 1:30 bleach every day for a week and also bleach my ground to get rid of the Toxemia. I've been looking for information about this but can't find anything. I want to know what is it, what caused it, how long does it take to show symptoms (did they come with this or get it here?) Is it like Parvo, even with bleach will it stay around for 6 months?

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://tinyurl.im/6AcwI

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

I also have toxemia. Its very similar to high blood pressure as you know and it's important to watch what you eat...stay away from things that are soaked with salt, drink plenty of fluid and water. If you eat canned veggies, drain them and wash them; (better to eat frozen veggies) hot dogs arent too good. If you have one drink lots and lots of water. I developed it at 20 weeks and im considered high risk because it is so early. If you have diarrhea dont freak its the symptoms of toxemia! OH! and another good thing is exercising, walking a few blocks and back. And a sign if your eating too much salt is when you sometimes see yellow and black stars.. headahces come and go, swelling goes up and down....if you ever feel that way, know to take it easy on your salt intake. watch drinking soda's and caffinated drinks. sorry its such a mouth full!!! Hope it helps a little...

Systemic toxemia is usually associated with bacterial endotoxins. Infectious diseases commonly accompanied by severe toxicity include feline pyothorax, pyometra, and severe canine prostatitis. Toxemia can also be associated with noninfectious causes such as tissue necrosis, heavy metal toxicosis, or cytotoxic drug therapy.
An example of how imperfectly constituted food eaten by a mother in pregnancy and beforehand can cause physical and mental deformities in the offspring is given from the cat feeding experiments of Francis M. Pottenger, MD, of California. Dr Pottenger conducted experiments involving 900 cats over a tenyear period from 1932-42, having noticed how dietary deficiencies constantly occurred in experimental animals fed on a scientifically formulated, supposedly perfectly constituted diet which contained some cooked food.

On a diet of raw meat and pasteurized milk or on a diet of cooked meat and raw milk, the cats' health deteriorated, whereas cats fed on raw meat and raw milk maintained perfect condition. The offspring of the ailing cats were weak and deformed with slack or perverted interest in sex, and those that survived to adulthood and were capable of breeding produced either stillborn or pathetically weak kittens. There were no further generations of the weakened cats because this generation was incapable of even attempting to breed.

When such cats of the second generation were put on the raw diet, their health improved and breeding from them was successful. However, Dr Pottenger reported that even properly fed, it took four further generations of this group before the line became completely normal again.

Pottenger recorded that when cats were fed raw milk from dry feed cows instead of raw milk from fresh feed cows, they showed deterioration similar to cats fed pasteurized milk. (See Pottenger's Cats, A Study in Nutrition, Price Pottenger Foundation, La Mesa, California.)

A natural way for dogs to communicate is to bark at things they find or see, usually which are interesting or a threat to them. If you have a dog that barks too much, then you want to find a way to calm down the instinct by offering the best dog training. While you want to make sure your dog can express themselves sometimes by barking, you also want to focus on not letting the noise become a burden. Following are some of the dog training tips that help your dog to stop barking while establishing basic obedience rules for the home.

Start young. If you have an older dog that hasn't been trained to stop barking, it is difficult to stop. You want to make sure that you train puppies not to bark if they are doing it too much. The younger you start training them, the easier it will be for them to understand the dog training commands.

Understand what barking is for. Barks from a dog are used for several reasons. You want to make sure you understand why they bark and whether this can be prevented. Some common reasons for barking are from the dog being bored or lonely. If there are distractions that the dog feels are a threat, they may also bark. You can prevent dogs from barking by giving them extra attention or by getting another pet.

Reward them when they stop. Just like other types of obedience training, you can easily stop your dog from barking by showing them when to be quiet. This is known as one of the best dog training methods. Dog training commands and words such as saying quiet, with a voice that has a low tone, will easily stop your dog from barking. Once they do stop, you can reward them by telling them good in a higher tone and by giving them a treat. However, you need to do this instantly after they stop so they understand what the reward is for.

Anti bark collars. If your dog instinctively keeps barking at everything, then you can get a collar for extra training. When the dog barks, a stimulus or scent is set off which causes slight discomfort for the dog. If you aren't around and your dog starts barking, it will immediately stop them.

Know when to train. You want to make sure you don't leave your dog in a position where they can't express themselves. Even if you have neighbors who don't like the dog barking, there are certain times where they should be able to speak. Knowing when to apply commands and training and when to let them bark helps them to feel comfortable while allowing you to apply limitations.
The ability to offer the best dog training is one that is reliant on consistency and understanding your dog. If you have a pet that naturally wants to bark, then finding a way to monitor the behavior is the best step to take. Following these dog training tips can help you to establish better behavior with your dog while allowing them to express themselves at the right time.
