This is a tricky one. I'm not sure if you mean if religion never existed or if it may have existed at some point but no longer did.

I think the religions that would categorize themselves under 'ethical monotheism' have done some good for the world. While they did not create morality, they did systemize it and pass it on to the masses in a convincing way. However, that being done, it seems like the world could do without religion, especially considering all of the hate surrounding it these days. In short, if religion never existed, the world might be worse off, but if it existed before but not now the world could easily be a better place.

first of all.. i am a christian.i have no RELIGION. i have a RELATIONSHIP with the creator of the heavens and earth.. the all powerful, loving Jesus Christ.

if it werent for religion, the world would be a better place, because then maybe other chrsitians would stop being hyppocrates and have a relaitonship, not a religion like so may people i know.
it would be better becasue faith would be real, and not a ceremony, not a reason to roll out of bed on sunday morning.

it would be better because people would be pasionate about God instead of putting on a fake smile and showing up at church anyway.

If it warent dor relegions people would not hate each other so much. The people that belive in religions dont understand religions. And that's why they hate other religions and by that they are creating hate and
violence. Churches make money on suvenirs and monks are doing lots of morbid stuff like Pahomie sexualy harrased lots of young boys. And so he got arrested. I think religion is made so people would have streingh to continue, so they would have feith in something. But that is all been forgotten and now
religion is just another way to make money in global way.

Good one! It is not the religion, but what man do with it that make this world worse and better at the same time.

Catholics helping the poor = better

Catholics during the crusades = worst

Muslim helping the poor = better

Muslim blowing the twin towers = worst

Much worse.

History has show that when religion is removed from a society, the society becomes cruel (Think Soviet Russia or Nazi Germany).

PS: I know some moron will try to say at this point that Hitler was a Christian, but his speeches say otherwise, and Hitler sent Christians to the concentration camps too.

Kimo,
Your question is too simplistic. It ignores a lot. Im a Christian and I don't like 'religion'. But if you have to have an answer, I would rather say that it would be a worse place, because none of us would exist!
