Yes, because the food industry makes people buy their food, and then, makes them eat too much of it! It's such a clear cut case... (ya that's sarcasm)

The only thing the food industry is guilty of is trying to meet their bottom line.

No one forces you to eat McDonlads every day, or at other resturaunts. No one is forcing you to eat muffins and cookies and other junk foods. No one is forcing you to down cups of designer coffee (which can have up to 800-1000 calories and tons of extra fat grams a cup).

People are fat because they eat too much, and what they do eat is trashy, and then they don't excercise. People sould blame themselves and their poor choices for being fat. It's called personal responsibility.

NO the food industry does not force you to eat
People just want to blame someone put the food away and eat healthy and you will remain healthy. A binge every so often is fine but you are the only one that is responsible for your body

Partially.

There is a difference between food and the products produced by industries. Fast food fries, for example, do not behave like 'real' French fries do- how many times have you found an old fast food fry in your car a month after going through the drive through and had it look perfect?

Preservatives, chemicals, artifical flavors, a huge variety of fats, sugars, and salts, and more is added to food that is processed in ways very different than what is done to the stuff in your kitchen or the local restaurant.

Most of the stuff that is done to it is just plain not good for you- yet it is marketed as being better in some way than other choices- more convenient, more 'natural', more enhanced, more flavorful, etc.

Then they play games with things like serving sizes, with things like the 'fourthmeal' idea from Taco Bell (brilliant- add another calorie laden, mostly fast food meal to our diets?)

They market to kids especially. They talk about the 'whine factor'- the way they literally program kids to nag their parents for things- cereals, Lunchables, and more.

I was reading an interesting article comparing American food to other countries- how much processed stuff we eat here compared to other places- and decriptions of how the processed food tastes beside the real equivilant. The author made special note of packaged cupcakes and real cupecakes. Intrigued by his comment that somehow we are told and believe these things taste good- but they really do not, I went out and bought some.

You know- he was right! I have always loved Hostess Cupcakes- but compared to real food, they are terrible! You can taste the metallic, chemically things in the aftertaste. Yuck! But a few minutes later, I ate the other one!

Industrial food is not the only problem, but our lack of awareness as to their role in the problem certainly is.

We need to become more aware of what we buy when we buy fast food and processed foods. We need to learn what real cheese is, how real bread goes stale, the difference between good ham and the watery packaged stuff, and how to make soup outside of the salty stuff in cans.

No they don't put a gun to our heads and make us eat it. People have to take responsibility for there own actions. They have healthy choices at most fast food places but some people just don't want them. They are out there to make money not watch your diet.

Absolutley not!!! There are plenty of healthy choices, even with fast food. People, self included, are basically uncontrolled pigs when it comes to food, and often make very poor choices. It angers me that people blame others for their own lack of willpower.

Surely people need to take responsibility for their own actions. I admit some may needclinical help to overcome eating disorders but most people who are overweight(including myself) just don't know when to say No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! now where did I put that Mars Bar?

No, people shoveling too much food and poor quiality food into their mouths and not exercising are responsible.

No, but they do a great job of marketing to kids and parents who are always on the run.
