It first became prominent at the Battle of Staligrad and soon after at the Battle of Berlin during WWII. It affected child soldiers in both Russian and German armies ( ie Hitler Youth). Does anyone know the clinical German name and which source can be referenced

I've found a link for The Stalingrad Effect, which I believe is what you're referring to, but the only thing I was able to find about Berlin Syndrome is that it is related to Multiple Congenital Anomaly/Mental Retardation (MCA/MR) Syndromes.

Take a look at the sites listed and I think you'll see that the first one is what you were looking for.

The thing that KJ Gracie was referring to is, I believe, the Stockholm Syndrome.

Stalingrad syndrome and Berlin Syndrome are two diferrent illnesses:

The Stalingrad Syndrome is the name given to the proccess by which a person, in a long period of exposure to a threatening body to one's physical and/or mental integrity, begins to develop a certain afinity to that threatening body's ideals and motives.

i.e. A person taken hostage by a terrorist group, a group that has a certain level of interaction with that person (interrogations for instance). After a period of time, that person conscious and deliberately starts to build sympathy with that group's ideals and
motives.

It differs from brainswashing by the simple fact that it isn't an exterior subversive factor but a self-made response to potential
aggression.

Berlin syndrome is a form of ectodermal dysplasia characterized by defects of the skin and skin appendages in association with mental retardation, short stature, hypotrichosis, hypodontia, and other defects.
Major Features:
Eyes: Deep furrows around the eyes.
Nose: Small saddle-shaped nose.
Mouth and oral structures: Delayed tooth eruption, hypodonia, thick lips showing telangiectasia, and deep furrows around the mouth.
Hand and foot: Moderate hyperflexibility of the fingers.
Skin: Leukomelanoderma with general dyschromia consisting of various shades of hyper- and hypopigmentation; pale dry, smooth, and pliable skin; aneto-poikiloderma-like lesions over the elbows, knees, and proximal phalangeal joints; atrophic scars over the lower parts of the legs with healed pyoderma; hyperkeratosis palmaris et plantaris with hyperhidrosis of the palms and soles; normal sweating of other parts; and hypoactive sebaceous glands.
Skin appendages: Dark, dry, and abundant scalp hair with a tendency to premature grayness; sparse eyebrows; small mustache in both sexes; absent axillary and pubic hair in males; and absent lanugo hair.
Urogenital system: Hypospadias, absence of secondary sex characteristics, and small penis, scrotum, and testes.
Growth and development: Mental and growth retardation with short stature bordering on dwarfism.
Heredity: The syndrome is familial and is transmitted as an autosomal recessive trait.
Additional features: Slender build with "bird legs."

Hope this helps
