The best way of course is to visit an ENT surgeon. However, most times you have wax in your ears, the quantity is not worth the doctor's while, or you may not have the wherewithal to visit your doctor.

I have used a cheap method that worked in the past. Every day, put a drop of olive oil into the ears (both ears are recommended because cleaning the dirtier ear alone will make the erstwhile cleaner one seem clogged). You can clean excess oil that oozes out with ordinary tissue.

You may notice at first that the ears either become either suddenly "clear" or suddenly "clogged". What has happened so far is that the oil has shifted the wax out of the way or in the way of the eardrum. You need to continue the treatment until the wax has softened enough to be removed with an ordinary cotton bud.

How long you need to do this for varies on the amount of wax, its consistency and position. Sometimes, it may take up to three weeks.

The best thing to use is an ear candle (not kidding). You buy them at health food stores. You will need someone to help you with this. While lying on your side, you place the narrow end of the candle in your ear. While the other person lights the other end (it's a long candle). They take off the pieces of candle as it burns down and the smoke pulls all the built up wax out of your ear. Then you repeat on the other one. It is completely safe and much better than trying to use a Q-tip-which you can hurt your eardrum with. You won't believe how much stuff is in there!

Most drug stores have a kit for washing out the wax. Q-tips work for the outer areas of the ear, shoving it down the ear canal will only push the wax deeper and pack it in tighter. Try washing it out first; if your still having problems see your family doctor. Don't risk damage to your eardrum.

Don't stick anything into the ear canal itself, this can just push the wax further into the ear. Follow the old saying "nothing smaller than your elbow". The ear really is a self cleaning machine, you can try to move things along by allowing your shower water to run into the ear, but if it is aching or painful, best to have a dr. clean it out.

I use hyrogen peroxide to disolve the wax,
( wait till it stops bubbling)
then drain and use a swab to get around the outside of the ear....
