Birth certificates, passports, and if either one of you has been divorced proof of divorce. The marriage cert you get over there is valid in the UK as long as ceremony has been conducted by an official. You don't have to notify the registry office or any other officials in this country.
Me and my husband got married in Barbados and that was all we needed.
Oh and congratulations and good luck for the future.

I would firstly telephone your local registry office and make some enquiries, I would also ring the embassy of the country where you intend to get married and ask which documents you require to take with you for the ceremony. Best of luck.
