See the doctor. They wil perform a series of tests on you. Nothing too bad. THey mainly see if you can pay attention for long periods of time.

Read up on both, a lot. ADHD and ADD are often convient diagnosises for kids that are bored, hyper, and not the teacher's pet. Diet and lots of unstructured exercise while doing homework/learning in smaller bites is often all that's needed. At the same time, both can also be first assumed when the real illness is bipolar. Get a couple of doctor/psych opinions before concluding it's the right diagnosis and the right meds, if meds are needed at all. Good luck.

My 12 year old step daughter has ADD.These are some symptoms-does not seem to listen, has difficulty with organization, can't focus or maintain attention,is easily distracted, can't follow instructions, loses items on a daily basis, makes careless mistakes, and talks excessively. How old are you?If you are still in school the school psychologist and your teacher can test you to see if you have it.If not,go and see a doctor that specializes in it.Don't be afraid because a lot of people suffer from it.In fact, our school psychologist has it and pushed himself to get where he is today!Your doctor will explain different options for you.I tried many different ways but ended up having to put my daughter on Ritalin.I am hoping that will soon change.Good luck!!!

Usually you can't concentrate for long periods of time. A school counselor can give you a test to see if you have it. If you have high achievement test scores but low grades, that's usually an indication. Oh, and ADHD/ADD people usually have a pretty high IQ. My son has ADHD.

You can't tell for sure. Both of these are mental "disorders" which have no real physical attribute to test for. You can test to see if a person shows signs of behavior associated with the disorder.

So you can't know for sure. It's kind of like depression...it's a state of mind, or in this case a "focusing" of the mind, and who is to say that one person is or isn't behaving as they should.

A majority of people, especially young adults, diagnosed with ADD and ADHD are actually quite fine, but simply have social or behaviorial issues which they can overcome with the appropriate level of discipline.

Read EVERYTHING about it, ask at least 5 doctors and/or psych docs. Realize that 3/4 of the time they are wrong. Sometimes its Bipolar which is worse, sometimes just a boring classroom. Isn't it NORMAL to have "attention deficit" if its REALLY BORING. I'm sure they would have said I had it if I was a kid in school today. Mostly then they thought I was just deaf.

its never possible to diagnose this on your own. You need to see a doctor so they can do special testing to ensure you are diagnosed properly. Some ADHD and ADD can be treated with medication, others just with simple lifestyle changes and alterations.
