2006-10-11 08:23:55 · 33 answers · asked by Nick H 1 in Health Diet & Fitness

For the benefit of 'Charles J', it was my mate who actually asked the question. He's sitting here along with another mate and enjoying our weekly boys night in playing PS2, eating a indian takeaway and having a laugh. Thats 30 somethings for you. By the way, i forgot to mention, he doesn't drink much, it's more junk food and he's a cabbie so driving all day doesn't help. Some great answers thou guys, thanks.

Well I could say "stop drinking beer", but that would just be stupid.

I lost a lot of weight when I started having to walk a mile in my journey to and from work. I did this as quick as I could and. at the same time stopped eating ANYHTING between meals. The only other action I took was in the first few weeks I consciouly avoided stuffing myself at mealtimes. I would eat enough and then stop, until the next mealtime. The weight loss was steady, slow, and stayed off. Pretty painless, but takes an little patience.

Please leave your mate alone and look at your own life and see what you can change for the better. The old cliche, "Actions speak louder than words" is very applicable here.

People respond to what we do, rather than what we say; you can possibly be an "agent for change" for your mate, but the only time things get done in one's life is when one internally makes a decision to change them.

I'll bet you wife could list twenty habits or characteristics she would like you to change, but it sounds as though she respects you enough to leave you alone; although that is a guess.

Even if that is not the case, leave her life-changing decisions to her and try to be as loving and supportive as you can.

My wife gained a lot of weight, but I didn't point it out to her because she knew exactly what she looked like, and eventually she decided to lose the weight after many fits of stopping, starting, diets that didn't work, exercise programs that faltered, etc.

So I respectfully advise you to: Shut Up; and work on your own life.

The Old and New Testament scriptures advise the same, ol' bud.

This may sound harsh, but someone needs to get your attention!

In the absence of a proper exercise regimen to burn the extra calories (or, and to firm up the flabby or bulging abdominal muscles), you need a strong will to control what goes into your stomach. This is the bottom line.

There are basically two ways to get rid of excess weight: either you do it by yourself (highly recommended, cheapest and best) or let someone else (like medical practitioners) force it down your throat (hopefully before adverse effects of the excess weight start to manifest). Ultimately, the choice is yours.

The only way a woman will ever get rid of a beer belly on a man is to kick him to the curb. No other solution has ever worked. Trade in but be careful that you are trading up.

don't drink the beer!
oh and forget the crisps and cigarettes that go along with a pint or two........

the best way is to not have the beer as it is loaded with calories and the gut will trim down - however the age old saying that exercise is the only way to get rid of the beer belly is so true.....

There are two ways to get rid of a beer belly: diet and exercise. Those are the only things that work.

Two main things give men beer bellies: beer and fast food. (there are other things...but that's mainly the cause). Without exercise, he needs to cut back on those things or cut them out all together. If he exercises a little (esp. crunches and other ab workouts), he could still have those things in moderation and get rid of his gut.

I successfully used "the alimony diet" for a few years. This was follwed by some problems at work and I found myself on the "Final written warning" diet.

Now I am on the "big mortgage" diet.

Wear your belly with pride!!!
