Fasting is REALLY bad!! I definitely wouldn't try that if you are wanting a long term reduction in weight. The best way is to lose the weight relatively slowly - about 2.5lb per week is a healthy weightloss, which shouldn't 'shock' your body back into yoyo mode once you slack off on the diet or exercise.
I lost about 30 lb over a 3 month period, and have kept it off for nearly 3 years now.

I would recommend the following steps:
- go for a brisk walk every day (at least 30mins) preferably before breakfast
- drop your alcohol intake (makes it easier to make good food choices)
- watch your portion sizes - protein (meat) shouldn't be bigger than the palm of your hand, same with refined carbs (white bread, pasta, etc)
- keep a food diary... types & amounts & time of eating. It's pretty scary for a start to see just how much you eat in a day, but eventually it helps you to see where you can make improvements.
- when eating a meal, eat half of what is on your plate, then have a little rest - get up and go to the toilet, or get a drink of water, or similar. Then come back and really think about whether you need the second half, or whether you are just eating it cos it is there. Your body takes 20mins to register that it is full, by which time most people have scoffed their whole meal, and then feel bloated afterwards.
- I also recommend putting your knife and fork down between every mouthful... it makes you chew your food better (which aids digestion) and also allows your body more time to register that it's full.
- if you have a bad day (we all have them)... don't panic and throw in the towel... just get up the next morning and start again with a clean plate.
- once you've lost a bit of weight, don't think you can you back to your old eating habits... you can sneak a few of them back in every now and then, but you really do need to keep at it. I end up keeping a food diary for about a week every month or so, just to double check that I'm still doing things right.
- don't cut out all the yummy things in your life - just try to control the portion sizes and reduce the frequency - eg a couple of pieces of chocolate once in while, rather than a whole block at a time (which is what I used to do!!)
- also drink lots of water

I know these all sound like pretty boring steps, and they won't make you lose weight overnight - but stick with the good habits, and eventually you'll be a healthier you. Unfortunately it takes hard work for most people to lose weight, and usually just as much work to maintain it. That's why taking little steps and slowly building them up works better than radical steps - it's more maintainable in the long run.

Lastly - remember to smile! You are doing this to make yourself feel and look better and healthier - the healthiest thing you can do is feel good about yourself, no matter how much you weigh.

Good luck!!

I am an exercise physiologist. The best way to lose weight is 5-6 days a week participate in one-hour of cardio in order to lose weight. After you meet your goal-workout 3-4 days a week at 30 minutes to maintain that weight. Also, eat in smaller portions if you have a really big diet. Keep in mind the average person only loses 1-2lbs a week and it will take about 6-8 weeks before you begin to truly notice a difference so hang in there, it is working. You don't have to try some foo-foo diet unless you plan on sticking to that the rest of the time you'd like to be that size.

I went from 18 to an 8 last year, by working out at my gym & going to Jenny Craig. No diet, but a change, learned to eat right and exercise.

visit the www.jennycraig.com website for menus and if at all possible join one near you. It truly helped to eat my way thin. I never went hungry and I am still using it today. It's been 13 months.

Tips...
You can snack all day long to keep your metabolism going, but make sure it's foods considered "free foods" Carrots, celery, bell peppers, cucumbers, radishes, brocolli, squash. Zero calorie drinks and sweeteners.

Drink 12 to 20 ounces of water with every meal. Have a mid-morning snack, yogurt or small apple and mid-afternoon too!

Make sure to remove the idea that eating after 6 is off limits. Your body goes without food the longest at night and it doesn't need to think it's going into starvation mode. Just get your calories in and don't worry about the time of day.

Good luck to you! It worked for me.

1200 calories a day without exercise
1500 calarios a day with at least 3 days of 45 minutes exercise
20-45 Minutes fat burn exercises 1 day
20-45 Minutes cardio exercises the next
CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR FIRST.

I also take Relacore the vitamin to help reduce cortisol that keeps belly fat away. (Oh yes)

Okay, I have the same problem. I couldn't control my eating and have gained a lot of weight. I finally figured out that I was actually depressed and that I was overeating because of that. To make a long story short, I asked the doctor to prescribe me something. (Yikes..!) I have been taking Prozac for a week and a half now and, I swear, for the first time in a long time, I am not craving food all the time, I am not eating constantly, I am not binging and so on. So, that might be something for you to look at too. You can take these tests on the Internet to figure out if you are actually depressed and find out if that is the reason you are overeating.

Fad diets and fasting are not the answer. Its really an easy answer. If you do this you will lose weight. Eat about 5 or six times a day.
Early morning- eat 2-3 ounces of meat preferably lean meats or egg whites.(sounds nasty but you can add salsa or something to make it taste better. Add a piece of fruit and water or coffee.

3 hours later-eat 3 more ounces of meat, another piece of fruit and water.

Afternoon- 3 ounces of meat(chicken works well, also lean ham)
Rice (half cup) or small potato(no butter, gravy or sour cream) you can add seasonings and cup of veggies or salad(no dressing or very lowfat dressing)

Mid afternoon-3 ounces of meat-fruit-water

Dinner-3 ounces of meat-rice or potato-veggies or salad-water

3 hours after dinner-3 ounces of meat-fruit-water
This really works if you stick with it. The more you have to lose the more you will lose in the first week. This is a lifestyle change. Just eating healthy. It takes work and its a bit hard to get used to but it changes your metabolism and really works. If you exercise to it works even better. But just eating right is a start. Drink Lots of water all day long it helps flush the body. Good luck hope you give it a try.

If you haven't tried Weight Watchers, I highly recommend it. It's not a DIET but a way of re-learning how to eat for health. They teach you how to limit your portions and certain foods, and you lose at your own rate. You weigh in weekly in private, but that helps you stay on course. I think there are too many skinny models and actresses. Don't get yourself into that kind of psychological problem like runway models. That is too skinny and can kill you as fast as being grossly overweight. Good luck.

Do cardio for 1 month, 30 min a day...5 days a week...if you can do that you will more than likely lose around 15 to 25 lbs....you will not even have to change your diet much...but after a few days...you might just want to on your own so you arnt wasting time working out

Ginseng tablets are natural energisers and man they work. Also supposedly there's a shite load of caffeine in Pepsi Max Cappucino and barely any calories. Diet Coke, Sugar free Red Bull, that sort of thing keep you going during a fast really.
Green tea has a strong taste which satisfies any craving for you know taste.
It's good to begin a fast with two days of fruit and veg and then nothing for another two days and then two days of fruit and veg.
Don't fast for long periods it could weaken your metabolism.
Good luck

You don't need to starve yourself, but diet alone won't cut it. It's not easy, but this is one way to do it.
-Eat less fat and sugar and drink more water (always order water and skip dessert).
-Do 20+ minutes of cardio before breakfast every morning (any exercise that raises your heart rate will do).
-Be consistent.
