So I was missing my ex because i hadn't spoken to him in almost two weeks. So I sent him a message that asked him how he was and that it was hard not knowing about it. He wrote back saying it was hard not knowing about me either and asked me if i was holding up okay? What's that supposed to mean?

It means he still cares, it also means your relationship really meant something to him-but it does not necessarily mean he wants you back. My advice would be to leave it a while longer and if he still feels that he misses you enough to ask after your welfare then perhaps just meet up for a chat and a coffee or something-but don't go into it with any ideas that it might lead to something more, just let things flow naturally and be open minded.

I think he is genuinely interested in your well-being, even if the two of you are not together. It seems like you feel the same and care for his happiness as well. And you know what? That is okay. It is okay to care about someone who you were with, even if you are not with them anymore.

Well you 2 obviously broke up for a reason, but he said that trying to say, I don't want to be with you anymore but I do care about what happens to you, and that he wouldnt want something bad to happen to you. and he wants to make sure your ok. Just forget about him.
