Mac OS X (10.4) "Tiger"
Mac OS X is by far the most advanced operating system in the world, yet also the easiest. "Pleasing" would definitely describe the Mac OS X experience, as well as awe inspiring, empowering and delightful. :-)

Linux, I prefer PCLinuxOS, it is free. You will get Open Office (like Office for Windows) you will be able to read any windows office program and save it as well.
You can get the distro in what is call a live CD. Place the CD in the drive and restart your computer. It will need to boot from the CD Drive.

Windows 98 SE was a great operating system Windows ME is horrible. Unix is a great opperating system but it is not user friendly and half the software developers make programs for Windows so making them work for UNIX is hard enough.

Mac OS X Tiger is by far the best... especially with a Mac Pro or MacBook Pro.
