Yes. Many Americans become muslims, an estimated 20,000 each year become muslims. Though most of them are black, but there are a significant number white americans as well. Dr. Jeffrey Lang, Hamza Yusuf are some of the more pronounced white American Muslims that I know of. Islam doesn't require any specific features or characteristics.
Essentially its,
True belief in ONE perfect God, without ascribing any partners with Him and believing that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the final Messenger of God.
