What is involved in a scan for (hyper) thyroid?

You get a radioactive pill and wait for a few minutes, then lie on a metal table as the machines scans your throat. It takes about 45 minutes from start (taking the pill) to end. It doesn't hurt and you can go about your business when done

they usually check your blood for levels of serum T3 and T4 (these are thyroid hormones)

I thought they just do a blood test, that is what they did with me but I have hypothyroidism.
