Uncooked beef and pork can be kept frozen for about a year. Chicken and fish uncooked can be kept frozen for about six months. Processed foods that have been processed, cooked and frozen can be kept frozen for about two years without changing taste or becoming "bad" for you. Here's the catch. In the last year that this has been in your freezer, has your freezer defrosted? If it has then the food defrosts just a little and refreezes. This affects taste and safety over time. Has your freezer been off any amount of time because of a power outage? If it has, this too will cause the food to refreeze and effect safety and taste. Only if your food has been in a deep freezer that doesn't defrost on its own and hasn't had an interruption of service would I eat food that has defrosted slightly and refrozen for the past year. Will it hurt you? Probably not. We are built to withstand a lot of punishment. Will it taste good? Probably not. Will it cause you to run to the bathroom every 30 minutes after eating it.....probably! But, then again, you need to be cleaned out from time to time.

NO NO NO - do NOT eat it. Shrimp's absolute longest time in the freezer before you throw it out is 4 months if raw and 2-3 months if already cooked. Stay away from it. And when you dispose of it, don't leave it sitting in the garbage for days. When it starts to thaw it will stink. Throw it in a covered outdoor dumpster.
And freezer burn means there's bacteria growing in the meat. Bad taste means bad seafood. I hope to never be invited to dinner at the person's house who responded that it's okay to eat it - only that it will taste bad and have freezer burn. I wonder what they serve? YUCK. I'm not in the mood for an emergency room visit here.

How much will you be saving? If you have a computer and you can afford to be on line, you can buy another bag of shrimp at the grocery store. It would probably be cheaper than a visit to the emergency room.

It's safe, but might not taste that great, especially if there has been freezer burn.
