Try finding a different therapist, one that your daughter can form a bond with. Or maybe if the whole family were going for counseling she would be more open to it, she doesn't want to feel like there is something wrong with her, and she may resent counseling because of this Maybe you could find some family counseling and let her know that sometimes families just need a little bit of help to solve problems. What you can do is carve out time for each girl each week. so each girl feels special, can talk to you, can have fun with you. They both need to feel special. Good Luck to you and don't give up, you sound like a good Mom who is doing her best to come up with the best solution for everybody.

My son also has ADHD with ODD, we never used medication with him, we used Behavior modification therapy and it worked wonders on him... He was Dx when he was 5 he is now 12 and while we still have our bad days, I can tell you it does get better, BUT BMT takes ALOT of patience and time on our part as parents and also a great deal of understanding. Remember the child is not the only one changing a behavior, we as parents are also learning a new way to speak to our children. You need to find a good therapist and stick with him/her. Also if you daughter is prone to tantrums or loss of temper, try anger management classes for her. we did that with our son when he was 6! because he was hitting his 3 yr old sister!! While it is a difficult process the rewards are great, this I can promise you.

As for the medication, if you chose to continue on this coarse, you can always crush it and hide it in something she loves to eat, ie pudding. We went through that with our son't anti siezure medication, but always check with your doctor first to make you it is a medication that can be crushed. Time released meds can not.

Good luck!

maybe u need a different therapist? maybe she would be more comfortable with a woman? maybe her medication is not right or a right dosage. My daughter(who has ADHD) was on Riddlin (sp?) it was terrible, but Straterra seemed to work better for her.

My other step daughter took a year to open up to her therapist, and even then its not until she got a totally differnt one that she seems to have opened up even more, maybe the first one, even though my husband and I loved, wasn't right for her.

Is she scared to tell you something, is there a possible reason she may not be listen to her teachers and maybe scared to tell you?

Hon, I know its hard, but just be there for her and keep telling her you love her and are there for her and to help

I wish u luck.
