I received a letter telling me that I won $1,000,000 and given a ref. number and batch number in a free lotto, I wrote at least 10 e-mails and two phone calls, am I just being stupid, if someone told me this I would say "sure you did". I haven't heard a word from them since they gave me my notice letter ! I've heard a lot about this so called free lotto and thought maybe this one was for real.

Yes, I get notices like that all the time. But I am aware of the fact that if it were true, the notice would come by certified mail, at the very least, and not by email or other unreliable and basically untraceable source. For $1 million, I should think even certified mail might be suspicious; I would expect personal contact would be appropriate for such a sum. A phone call followed up by a visit, probably with cameras and crew. The phone call first would be for you to have time to get dressed up nice and be ready to receive the check in front of the cameras, because the main reason for such sweepstakes is to use the winners in advertising and promotion.

Yes, this is a very common scam. I have had similar ones from Canada too. Don't give them any personal information. They will send you a counterfeit cashier's check saying it is to pay for taxes. They will ask that you wire the excess back to them. You will find out that the check is counterfeit AFTER the wire is sent. Your bank will want their money back and you'll be stuck.
The other thing they might do is ask you for your account information and debit your account later. You lose again.
Don't give them any info. You'll be sorry! If you did give them info, close the affected credit card/account. They will start spending your money right away.
Why do you think you won something? Did you enter this specific lotto? I bet not! How would they get your address? Think about it and you'll realize that this is a SCAM.

I recieve this about 10 times a day. Just FYI - if you thought for one minute this was real, you need to be careful on the internet. I assume you are a very young person, probably a teenager. Consult your parents before emailing a scam like this.

At least ten times daily. Not small prizes. One to fuve million internet lottos. All they want is a few hundred to a few thousand dollars to verify you and your winning and then they vanish. I've several email addresses and I receive winning notices at every email address.

NONE OF THEM ARE REAL!
Did you actually enter this lottery? If not then it's a scam! They aren't just going to pick some random name from somewhere and give them money. They pick random names to scam the hell out of you.
If you do pursue this and they ask you for money to "release your funds", then you know for sure you are being scammed, DON'T FALL FOR THIS!
