I have a relative who made a mistake and was drinking and driving and ended up in jail over this. He has two options at this point. One will be 18 months probation and the other is 10-30 days in a county jail. He is a wonderful guy just made a mistake. Can anybody shed any light on what goes on in a county jail? Is it really that bad? If he does the time..after that he has to do nothing else with the courts. If he opts probation he has monthly payments to the courts, community service, meeting with a probation officer, paying probation fines...The county jail is Denton County Jail in Texas.

This would be up to the persons personal preferance. I would surely do almost anything not to loose my freedom. Why would someone prefer incarceration over probation. Don't know. With probation, community service, payments and P/O visits, there might be a chance he could fallow the rules and have every thing removed from his record in the near future. Worth checking into. (unless he don't care)

i would take the jail time...1 month in jail will be nothing compared to having to check in with some person everyday or once a week for the next year and a half. It's nothing to me...30 days or 18 months both suck but which one can you stand the most?

Take the jail time. First of all the jail time is shorter and then also the condition will remind him not to make those mistakes ever again.

I say if he can handle the jail time; that would be the way to go, but make sure that after serving his time that this will be the end of the mess he's gotten hiself in! Good luck!

Yes, jail is really as bad as it is portraid in movies and media. The incidents of male rape and subsequent HIV infection is extremely high. Basically if you are a white male of small build and relatively young you can pretty much count on being raped.
