Hey, I have a himalayan persian kitten about 5 months old. We have a small dish for em that has a side for water and food. How often should I feed him a day? ATM we are using meow mix, but I was planning on picking up some Iam's kitten food. Thanks. I want him to be a heathy, lean cat and not fat.

You should be feeding him 3-4 times a day. Swith to twice a day when he is 1 year old.
If you want him to be healthy and lean I wouldn't recomend Meow Mix or Iams.
I prefer canned food not dry. Although many people rely on dry cat food as a staple for their cats' diets, canned cat food is a must for developing strong bones and muscles, while mitigating many potential conditions caused or contributed to by an all-dry cat food diet.
I would recomend something that doesn't have any grains and by-products.
Some of the brands are Innova EVO, Wellness, Nature's Variety.

Hope it was helpfull.

Kittens should be fed three times a day with dry food. Can food is good for kittens as well but once a day is plenty. You said you're going to change there food soon, do it as soon as possible! Himalayans are know to be very picky eaters so you should start them on a well balanced food A.S.A.P Also you should chose a natural or holistic type of food. Some good brands are, Porforatrim/Ultra, Eagle Pack, Nutram....you'll find them at most if not all pet stores.
Hope I helped.

Kittens are considered kittens untill 1 year old. They should be fed a high quailtiy kitten food untill 1 years old. Dry should be left out to eat as the kitten wants and canned two times a day.

once you find a kitty food that the cat does well on try not to change it, it can give them and upset tummy. feed about 1/4 cup in the morning, maybe a few kibbles mid-day and another 1/4 cup in the evening. As kitty gets older you'll be able to figure out how much is appropriate for each feeding. Best of luck with kitty. Remember to get annual Vet checks and shots...

Well when my Himalayan was a kitten, we let him free feed the dry food and once a day had a little wet food at night. If you do the wet in the morning, they will ask earlier and earlier everyday, so you start at 9am and by the time you know it they want the wet food at 4am. So do not start that.

Cats will sometimes pant when stressed or hot. But an underlying heart condition could also be an issue. These are not always easy to detect and can often need that of a specialist. Kitty cardiologists are everywhere. If you are concerned, ask you Vet for a referral. Best wishes to you.

Food and water dishes should be separate as they usually one part needs cleaning before the other.

Meow Mix is a terrible food and so is Iams. You shouldn't feed your cat that or any other grocery store food. Please go to www.littlebigcat.com and read Dr. Jean Hovfe's article "Selecting a Good Commercial Pet Food". There are many articles there on feline nutrition and other health matters relating to cats. So it's a free catcare education.

sorry to say, but your kitten is not a kitten anymore..he is young cat.(like in humans, a teen). feed him twice a day his dry food and once a day a wet food...buy small cans , fancy feast has a good variaty of cat food, try to feed his wet food in the evening hours..and don't give in if he ask you for more...cats know how to train the owners...make sure he has a fresh water every time you feed him...dry food helps to clean his teeth and mantain the health of his gums
