You are kidding me with this question, right? I mean if you read one book, why would you want to read another? If you eat one food, why would you want to eat any other? Allot of people don't want to stay "stagnant" they like learning new things.Sometimes you can even get a better paying job if you speak more than one language.Or possibly.just possibly, someone is perhaps moving to another country, and instead of not knowing what is going on at all. They choose to learn the language of where they will be going. How many people gripe(myself included)about people that move here not learning the English language. So,if only one language is GOOD enough, then a foreigner wouldn't have to learn English, because "one language is enough".

Well, English isn't the only language in the world.
Some things aren't the same when read in translation.
I found that learning to speak a second language has helped my English. To say nothing of being an homage to my ethnic heritage.

If they go out of the country they can talk to people. What would you do if your looking for a restroom and you didn't know the language. If you never plan on traveling you might just like to know more when you go to a neighborhood outside of yours and understand what they are saying. I think sign language should be taught along with English when you first start school.

Foreign languages are not only tools, but are also the expression of a nation's unique culture and mentality. Thus learning different languages provides us a lot of enrichment and insight. Besides, making the effort to communicate in the language of the person you are talking to is a meaningful step towards friendship and better understanding. Last but not least, fluency in other languages enable us to truly enjoy foreign literature, instead of having to use the means of translation. You know the saying - "Traduttore, traditore" ("Translator, traitor").

Sure, being a narrow minded typical American.
I am in Iraq working with two Bosnians, 1 Indian (from India), and 1 Nepalese, and there are others here from Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Malaysia and elsewhere.
I enjoy learning their cultures and their languages. It develops understanding and friendship and we have a great laugh mixin-up the language.
Don't ever believe that anything is ever "enough". To do so, is to close doors of opportunity and enlightenment.

No, English probably isn't enough. We learn different languages to be able to communicate with people from other places and cultures.

There is another simple reason: learning a foreign language is a good preventive measure against memory loss in old age as it develops new connections within the brain.

English!?! Enough? No it's not. I agree if you say that it's important to know English but how can you say that's enough? What about french, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese,.... and so on?!?!
You should try it, it's never to late. You never know what is going to happen tomorrow, so learn everything you can today, do your best to have knowledge about all kind of culture, languages so you'll never be embarrassed in future.
