Wow! What a scary debate. How about instead of increasing the number of weapons in the schools, DECREASING them. What a concept!! Give students guidance, self-confidence, knowledge, and self-respect. Create a family environment in the school and teach the students and teachers to need, trust and love each other. You can't fix violence with violence. If teachers are allowed to carry weapons, school will be more like prison. This problem does not have an easy fix. You have to start with the grassroots problems.

I live in Spain (Europe), and I never heard of any fire weapon problems in schools. Maybe because people are not allowed to keep weapons at home...??

Rather than arming teachers... doesn't it sound wiser to focus attention on keeping fire arms away from kids' (and why not, everyone's) hands??

If we did as loryntoo says, we'd have self-defense training...what if some students used this knowledge to bully other kids, or even the teachers?
We should teach everyone on how to use some self-defense tools, such as sprays or stuff like that. But of course, sprays can also be misused...
The best solution would be to provide of better self-defense tools to the new victims...

That's not the attitude we need. Focusing on the origin of these problems is the only way to find a solution.
Why do we find weapons in schools?? The answer is obvious: BECAUSE THESE KIDS HAVE EASY ACCESS TO THESE WEAPONS!!

Just a reference: did you watch The Simpsons chapter when there is a reptile plague?? The solution THEY offer is... arming the teachers

Considering the parameters you mentioned I wouldn't have a problem with it. The problem now a days is that teachers and administrators are so afraid of getting sued they refuse to even intervene in a fight. I don't respect anyone that won't wrestle a kid the ground...so, those are your average teachers. People that have chosen previous career fields in which they had weapons training are of a completely different caliber than the average teacher....I think it could work really well.

I think it's wise. I also think students should have self defense training with more mature students getting more advanced training.

Guns are not as deadly as they seem. Members of society have been conditioned to think of them as deadly, but the truth is a rifle is no good in close quarters and is one of the easiest weapons to take from an inexperienced gunman. Hand guns are far more deadly.

I've always wondered what would have happened at Columbine if the hero teacher who was shot and died getting students to a safe room had been carrying a .45 and knew how to use it. Could have ended the whole thing right then.

Over in the Politics section, I won a violation for telling somebody it develop right into a stupid query. They pronounced it develop into for insulting yet another participant. i think of that if all of us is going to be that mushy, they could desire to no longer be asking inflammatory questions. I stick by way of my weapons that it develop right into a stupid query and that i observed why. I additionally think of that Yahoo! Questions disproves the instructor's previous asserting, "there are not any stupid questions" . BTW if decide to work out obtrusive lack of information to the factor of stupidity by way of some human beings attempting to make a factor with a query, check out the politics section. I am for it. In Florida and other states with right to carry crime went down dramtically. I carry a gun all the time, and the large high school students would think twice before producing a weapon. The opposition is stupid.

I think it sounds like a good idea. Maybe even train all teachers so they all could be armed. Of course, a very throrough background check would be neccessary.

Unwise. Teachers are human too. Sooner or later, a teacher with a gun would inappropriately shoot a student.
