Me and my soulmate (I call him that because he's my everything, and I'm his everything). He and I are so much alike, it's not even funny.

But after a conversation on America (where I'm from) this morning, and the "mentality" Americans have, we both found that we don't agree, on a politcal standpoint.

What do I do?
1. Do I agree with him and never bring it up again?
2. Do I keep my political view, and never bring it up again?
3. Do I keep my political view, and bring it up again?
4. (Your answer here)

Mind you, my viewpoint is more laxed: I know that America isn't perfect but it certainly isn't THE WORST country to live in.

His view is that America lies to its people, and you can never make it here if you're Black (plus a lot more similiar political views...)

You ever see the perfect couples that break up because the guy is a democrat, and the girl is a republican? I'm afraid that might be us!
But help me please... thanks in advance :)

3 things that break people up are:

Religion

Politics

Money

and people have killed for less. There's no perfect solution for this one, but just tell him that even if he doesn't agree with you he should respect your right to have that view, and you will respect him the same way. I would avoid the issue as much as possible after that, and don't stab jokes about that with each other.

Hmm.. Condaleeza Rice, Colin Powell, Bill Cosby, and others never "made it"? If he thinks he can't succeed here just because he's black, the whole rest of the world is out there waiting for him to come home from Mexico, or Canada, or Australia, or wherever as a millionaire/movie star/pop star.

But regardless of that...

I say you agree to disagree, and if it comes up, you discuss it rationally, without name calling, without trying to convince the other that they are wrong. If neither of you can live with that, it might be time to split up.

Conservative and Republican at the instant are not the comparable element. There are conservative Democrats, Independents, Libertarians etc. you do not ought to tell your mothers and dads something approximately your political ideals or what occasion you help. i'm somewhat extra liberal on social matters than my mothers and dads have been, yet they have been enormously opened minded for their time.. They have been born in 1915 and 1917. They have been able to conform with interracial and gay marriages while i did not ought to alter into 'tolerant' to assist those matters. I supported them whilst i became in college in the 1960's.

ask him to tell you a better country where a black man can live i would like to hear where....as far as making it hear he must be lazy or uneducated if he can't make it in this country ....keep your political views i don't think he will listen to you one way or the other....tell him to go to Atlanta Ga.or N.Y.C. and look at some of the rich black people there who made it by working hard and putting in long hrs. then ask him why he can't do it to...... tell him he can make it to if he works hard and long hrs.its not easy but it can be done

It can be a big problem, yes, espcially if either or both of you are politically sensitive. I would say, for now try to avoid all talk about politics..Political views can change with time, especially if influenced by someone you care for.

well u take the stand of agreeing to disagree. if this person means that much to u then u will respect the fact that u don't always share the same views. respect each other's differences.
however u muct decide if it really bothers u and if it changes ur opinion of the person.
tell him how u feel.

Have him agree with you that America is somewhere in the middle between both of your views... and that's possibly the truth of the matter...

If you both care more for each other then for your political views, agree to disagree and don't bring it up anymore.
