Okay, you don't need a recipe for pasta salad. Just cook the noodles and let them chill in the fridge while you add whatever else you like. Pick a few veggies you like, cucumbers, broccoli, tomatoes, black olives.... Whatever you like is fine. Add your cheese cubes and meat. You don't really need to measure anything. Just eye ball it keep mixing it up until it looks good. Try to add veggies that are different colors it looks better. Put the Italian dressing on, mix it up again, and put it back in the fridge. You may have to add additional dressing after it sits for a few hours since the pasta absorbs a lot of it. Also you could add a little Caesar dressing if the Italian tastes to bitter.

I agree that you should leave out the meat and cheese. The pasta salad by itself with last for up to a week in a tightly sealed container in the fridge (as long as it has no mayo). Once you add the meat, it means that it will only last for 2 days before it starts going bad.

Cook your pasta as per package directions.
Rinse in a collander in the sink, with cold water to cool the pasta down. (It doesn't have to be exact--as long as it no longer burns to touch it.)
Let all the water drain from pasta (leave the collander sitting in the sink for about 5 minutes--stirring it once in awhile to get all the water out).
In the meantime, dice very finely:
1 medium onion
1 head of garlic (I like my food really garlicky-feel free to use less for yourself
2 stalks of washed and dried celery
1 medium green pepper

Place these ingredients in your salad bowl, and toss your pasta in with it. Add salt and pepper to taste. Add enough italian dressing so that the pasta noodles are glistening with it. Cover and let sit in the fridge for at least a couple of hours...this will help meld the flavours. Before serving, toss salad again to distribute any unabsorbed dressing through the salad.

Serve your meat and cheese on the side, sliced finely in bite size pieces. This would taste great if you also served melba toast with it. Or you could make an hor douvre by placing a slice of cheese and meat on each melba toast, and then toasting them on a cookie sheet in your oven for about 10 minutes at 350 degrees (just until the cheese begins to melt).

Herbed Pasta Salad:

Serves 8; Prep time: 20 minutes; Total time: 20 minutes

Coarse salt and ground pepper

1 1/2 pounds orecchiette or other short pasta

1/3 cup olive oil

4 garlic cloves, sliced

1 cup chopped fresh basil leaves

1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley leaves

1. In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook pasta until al dente according to package instructions. Drain and rinse pasta under cold water; leave in colander, and set aside.

2. Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, heat oil and garlic over medium. Cook, stirring, until garlic is fragrant and sizzling, about 1 minute. Remove from heat; let stand 10 minutes.

3. Pour garlic oil through a sieve into a large bowl; discard garlic. Add pasta and herbs to oil. Season generously with salt and pepper; toss to combine. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve, chilled or at room temperature. (Salad may be made up to 2 days in advance; before serving, taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.)

Note: Wooden skewers need to be soaked for 30 minutes to prevent them from catching fire on the grill.

Since it's a pasta salad, you know that the majority will be pasta. Don't worry about exact measurements! Just have fun with it!!! Here's the ingredients I use in my pasta salad...

[I don't have measurements b/c I'm not at home...]

pasta [of course! LOL]
olives
cucumbers
celery
carrots
green peppers

Just put in any of your favorite vegetables that you love!! Put it together and... VOILA!!!!

I hope I was helpful!!! Enjoy your salad. Keep cooking because I LOVE COOKING, TOO!!!

Your main ingredient is the pasta. Take as much of that as you have cooked. Place that in a bowl, add the other ingredients in small amounts at a time and taste frequently. This is the best way to learn how to cook! Taste is everything.

Good luck.

If you are using one pound of pasta, I would say to use about a 3/4 a cup of italian dressing....I don't measure, I just pour it and mix it until it's to my liking.

Pepperoni is great in pasta salad along w/ chopped sun-dried tomatoes, feta cheese and black olives and green onions w/ italian dressing (a mixture of both zesty and creamy).

Sounds good, I hope it turns out well for you!!

cook the noodles to make a half-cup serving for each person you're feeding. follow directions on the bag.
add everything else to taste/look.
put it in later with the cooked noodles until it "looks" right.
do the dressing by taste. start with less and add until it tastes right.
