why is it that christians think that they have the logical upperhand on the debate over god and secularism?
I ask this with the most upmost earnestness.
I don't understand why it can be so logical that there may quite possibly not be a god and there are so many arguments that make sense no matter who you are, yet christians don't even try to address these argument logically. They just seem to hold their ears and say to themselves "blah blah blah ...............I can't hear a word your saying, but i'll pray for you because satan has confused you and you are a lost soul." if you are earnestly skeptical of god for very good, noble reasons, and if god is real, how could he look down on you for it?

What does earnestly skeptical mean and what noble reasons do you have to be skeptical? God has made Himself known throughout His handywork. If you cannot see the systems and organization displayed throughout the universe, or in the innermost recesses and sophistication of the human genome... or eye... or the beauty of this earth and all it's self healing capacities... and how all of these things are designed for your appreciation... If you can more easily call all of these things random occurences... then you my friend have been blinded to what is noble and true. Search your heart for the truth and open your eyes to the unvailing of Gods creation. It is right in front of you. How can you put your faith in the unproven theories of man when man has never been able to advance out of the darkness that is of his own foolish pride.

I would be glad to address any questions you have as you are making assumptions.

Think of it this way:

When I die I expect to go to Heaven, however if by chance I am wrong I still lived well and have no regrets.

Now let’s take a nonbeliever in the same scenario. When they die what will happen? Well, if God is real they will most likely go to Hell but if God is not real then they will end up just like I would.

By being a believer you are not hurting your life at all and stand to find great reward in the end. By being a non believer you risk going to Hell.

So, who would you think is making the better decision here?

I guess I have to counter that. How can you be so skeptical about God, who does exist.
The reason we don't address the arguments logically is because Faith in God is illogical.
We can not see Him, only His works in nature, ourselves, and others. We do not hear Him, only when we become still and listen intently.
We can't taste or touch Him, we just have to believe.
And the reason we seem to plug our ears is because there is NOTHING you or anyone else could ever say that will convince us He is not real.
If you are honestly seeking to know if He is real ask Him, in honesty to prove He exist. But if you go around and say- He doesn't exist- I looked and did not find Him, well I would have to say you did not look very far or hard.
God will open your eyes when it is the time for Him, not before. If you have not "found" Him, although He is not the one lost, I would suggest keep looking.
"Let them who have ears, hear. Let them who have eyes, see. "

I think it's sad when Christians can't defend their faith. It's even more sad when they respond to challenges to their faith with answers like "satan must have confused you and you are lost." Especially for an evangelical Christian, that's not the best way to share your faith.

As a Christian, I have a strong faith in God and I know that he is real. I also know that Jesus is my savior. But there are many questions that are still left unanswered. If a Christian tells you that he/she knows everything about their faith, then that person is trippin. Nobody, not even the most knowledgeable pastor in the world, should be so arrogant as to claim that. As Christians, we are encouraged to constantly ask questions and challenge our beliefs. The Bible tells us to seek God with all our hearts, MINDS, and souls. It's one thing to have faith but I think that it's also good to be prepared to defend this faith that is the foundation of one's life.

In seeking answers to my questions about God, Jesus, the Bible, Christianity in general, I've found that it actually takes more faith to be an atheist than it does to be a believer. For example, there is so much scientific evidence that has been discovered recently that points to the existence of a Creator. There's also so much evidence that supports the existence of Jesus, his claims that He was God, the validity of the Bible, etc. But everybody's search is different. Don't take my word for it. Challenge the faith, poke at it, probe it. Here are some resources that might help get you started:

http://www.str.org/

I've also found books by Lee Strobel to be helpful too. Case for Faith, Case for a Creator, Case for Christ.

I believe that by accepting Jesus as your savior and living a life that is in the will of God, that is the key to eternal life. If I'm wrong and there is no God, than at least I can say that I've lived a fulfilling and happy life. But for those who are unsure, finding answers to your questions and taking this seriously is definitely a worthwhile thing to do because the consquences of non-believers being wrong is far too great.

In the Bible, God never punished anyone for questioning Him. Many of the biggest, most respected believers wrestled with God in scripture.

It's hard to seek logic against something that's clearly impacted your life. If you've encountered God, why would you then believe that He isn't real do to logic?

None of us have all the answers, believers or non-believers. I'd be interested in hearing which particular questions have resulted in the answers you're describing.

Well, you seem to believe that you can doubt the existence of God for good and noble reasons. That is a self-delusion.

Why do I think that? Because man doesn't even like God. We hate to do good. We are prone to selfishness, which is often the real reason for unbelief.

If we were to believe, we would have to change. We hate that. We prefer sin. I know, for I indulged in it for 33 years before finally getting it. God exists, and I know this from my own personal experience. Oh, how I wish I'd listened to people who shared Him with me before He had to cause great difficulty in my life to get my attention. Logic, my friend is the way to find Spock. You want to find God, you must look to Truth.

As far as debating secularism, we are called to defend our faith. We are also called to share the faith with unbelievers. Personally, I'd rather do just about anything else. But I don't want to face my Lord in disobedience. (I Peter 3:15)

Now, as to my first comments about no one having good or noble reasons for doubt, I am informed by my faith. And although it is probably meaningless to you, I will share some passages about why I said what I did.

"Not even one person is righteous. No one understands. No one searches for God. All have turned away. Together they have become worthless. No one shows kindness, not even one person! Their throats are open graves. With their tongues they practice deception. The venom of poisonous snakes is under their lips. Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness. Their feet are swift to shed blood. Ruin and misery mark their ways. They have not learned the path to peace. There is no fear of God before their eyes." (Romans 3:10-18)

Probably not what you're looking for, but addresses the concerns that you listed in your question.

no, no, no, they don't hold their hands over their ears. They listen. But they have some very good arguments that no one can refute:
1. You have to have faith
2. The devil is trying to trick you into believing evolution/humanism/etc
3. When you say "That makes no sense", then God is convicting
you and that is why you are being defensive

How do you argue with that?? You can't. it is a brick wall.

Because you (we) were sent to this earth not to live but to be tested of your faith in God. While atheists do the deeds of the devil by trying to diminish people's faith the Christians that address arguments are doing the deeds of the lord by spreading his faith. Unknowingly you are doing the deeds of the devil everytime something negative is said about God or questioning his existence the devil just collects another soul. Why not believe in the Lord? What do you get out of not believing? If there is just the slighted chance that God does exist why not embrace him to save yourself from an eternity in Hell because once you die it's too late to change anything you have said or done.

I used to be a hardcore christian and I remember living in my own world where I was always right. I didn't and couldn't acknowledge anyone Else's opinions because that would cause my world to come crumbling down before my eyes. I protected it fiercely even if it meant not listening to reason. But I think believing on god and being a christian are 2 completely different things. I do believe in a higher power but I don't consider myself a christian anymore.

You have asked a great question. But in truth there are fanatics in all walks of life. And they are blinded to anything that does not fit into their realms and thinking pattern. That does not make them bad people it just makes them limited people to deal with and they are not open to other avenues or adventures that happen in real life. It is true that Satan in the enemy of all man kind. But Satan is not always the answer as to why mankind fail in life's endeavors.
