When she uses the liter box does she ever use it? Please check, as she could be sick. I had a cat with a urinary tract blockage and he would go in there and it'd look like he was trying but nothing came out. Cats can develope crystals in their urin that can prevent them from passing any urin as the urethra is very small on cats. If this lasts too long they can die from it. Get your cat checked by your vet.

So many possibilities! If this is new behavior for her, then I agree wiht the posted who says that she may have a bladder infection or an infection of some type. If that is the case, take her to her vet for a check up.
If she has always done this, it may just be she likes it in there!
Is she actually peeing a lot? That can be a sign of diabetes which is common in cats. But it sounds as if she is just hanging out...is it a covered box? Maybe she likes the privacy in there?

She could have a urinary tract infection.Cats will do this when they have a UTI.They feel like they have to pee,but they can't,or they can only do a little and it burns,so they just sit there. You should watch her to see if she's trying to urinate. If her bladder gets blocked(from stones),it can be fatal. Is her lower abdomen hard or swollen? Is she eating? If she's acting normal otherwise and just sitting in the box, then it could be fleas or a skin problem.Cats will attempt to hide from the fleas, and pick strange places to hide.Either way I think you should take her to the vet.Better safe than sorry.

She might have a bladder infection. If she keeps on going in there and only sometimes does a small amount or not at all then she probably does. Have you noticed her sitting on anything weird- like a sock or a shoe? Take her to the vet and find out.

Could be she likes the feel of the litter, my cats go outside and roll on the driveway, in dirt or sand so maybe this is her version of that. If this is the first time she is doing this make sure there isn't a problem, otherwise it is just something she does.

If this is something new, go to a vet, she probably has a bladder infection.
If this is ongoing, it's a weird quirk. Offer some boxes for her to lay in. Maybe she likes thinking inside the box.

I don't know, but my cat likes to do it too. Like as soon as I clean it all out she will go and lay down and take a nap in it. maybe they just like the feel of the litter.

i don't know, i have a rabbit and he loves his litter box. he just sits in it. he likes if his food is close enough to reach without getting out of the box. he runs all around like a silly beast when i clean it and jumps in and rolls around all happy like. i guess it's HIS. and he feels very attached. maybe your kitty just feels comfy in the box.

That is strange!

The one time I saw anything ressembling that, the cat in question was very sick.
