It depends on how big she is and/or how long her legs are, etc. (Dachsunds dont make very good jumpers.) Dogs with long legs can, of course, run/jump better, so fetch is always good for them. Anything that involves running, but just keep in mind that if the dog has short legs, it cannot keep up with you. And for God's sake, keep them away from traffic! If she is more Border Collie, then try Frisbee. They seem to do well at this. Since yours is a puppy, try using a lid from a tub of margarine, thrown at short distances. They are very light and will not hurt your pet. Once it gets bigger and gets the hang of it, you can use the ones they sell at pet stores made specifically for dogs. Most dogs love to fetch and anything that involves running. Of course, this would be good exercise for your dog, but please, do not punish your pet if it doesnt play along. Sometimes it takes them a while to get the hang of it and sometimes they simply dont want to play for various reasons, including that the dog might be ill. Good luck.

We have a border collie and are persuing agility to give her a "job" to do. It's a fun sport and yes, mixed breeds can pariticipate in many competitions, but AKC is limited to only pure breeds. But there are plenty of other ones that allow mixed breeds to participate. Look for a local agility club in your area if this interests you and they can give you suggestions on trainers to persue training for this.

Don't limit her to single sports, her mind needs to be challenged. I have seen obstacle courses for dogs that I was amazed at. With little guidance they did great, and were so appreciative when completing the course that their owner was there at the end to give them a treat and affection. Watching the movie "BABE" was really inspiring. This video is long, but look how the dog obeys, adores and loves his owner.
World's Smartest Dog Video.htm...SORRY, I have this on my desktop and I don't know where all the other things come from (which I just deleted), but just look up worlds smartest dog. A little patience and love you and your puppy will be FANTASTIC. (don't forget to check out the movie, um and have some tissues on hand.)

Look up flyball or agility. Border collies need a "job" to do & most excel at sports. Any breed can do it. Have fun!

Fly ball is really fun and so is agility. Fly ball is a game/sport that the dog can almost play by himself.
