Hep C is rarely spread via sex. It is most definitely not spread by close personal contact! It is spread through blood to blood transmission, in other words the infected person's blood must come in contact with someone else's blood in order for them to become infected too. There is very little public knowledge about this disease, which is why so many people have it and dont know it. Please don't share toothbrushes or razors as the virus can live outside the human body and get on toothbrushes through bleeding gums; if the person who uses the toothbrush also has bleeding gums, they may get it too. Same for sharing razors. The most common methods of transmission are tattoos, piercings, IV drug use (even only once), blood transfusions before 1992, pneumatic vaccination guns used in the military, blood exposure (paramedics, EMT's, doctors, & nurses), & accidental needlesticks, and snorting cocaine. Hope this helps.

Most physicians and medical information will tell you there is a 3-5% chance of contacting sexually which includes an open wound involved. That may sound risky, however your chances of contacting by sharing a toothbrush or razors are much greater and definatley high risk. I 've heard many doctors tell patients unprotected sex is very little risk and an individual choice. It depends if you want to take the risk. My brother passed away from Hep-C 6 weeks after he was diagnosed (ignorant doctors) so I try to spread the word and make as many people aware of the disease. The most common form of infection is needle sharing and sharing straws from cocaine or other snorted drugs. (Spread the word if you know any drug users) Do research yourself and make your own informed decision as many healthcare professionals unfortunatley are not familiar with the disease. It is known at the silent epedemic and more people are infected by four times as much than HIV. The blood supply was not tested for this until 1992, so most people could have contracted and will never know until years later. The general population are not educated and the disease has a stigma associated with HIV, sort of a "dirty sex" which is not the case. The statistics that are available show that those in a monogamous relationship and have been for years, the other partner has not contracted the disease. I'm not advocating unprotected sex by any means, but it may depend on your individual situation.

First of all, having unprotected sex with anyone is a bad idea. There are alot worse things than hep C. Hep C is most commonly spread through blood contact (shared needles and the like). It is not easily transmitted via sexual contact. If their viral load is undetectable, then the risk of transmission is even smaller.
Your best bet is to use a condom everytime you have sex. That way you avoid syphillis, chlamydia, herpes, HPV, HIV, etc. etc.
Get the picture?

No and it is not spread by sexual contact UNLESS there is a blood to blood transmission/exchange!

If you have a sustained viral response, you do not have hcv anymore...at least the active parts of the virus.

I am living proof that HCV is not spread sexually, because I had hcv long before I even knew what sex was! I have had my fun of guys....and even saw one off and on for over 14 years (even during chemotherapy and yes he knew, not only because I told him the second i found out what I had, but quite obvious over the loss of hair, weight ect...) NOT ONE has hepatitis c!

I am now cured....yes, CURED. My doctor was apprehensible using the term during my 2cd year after chemo, but now the term is used more widely.

Anything below 10< is considered undetectable.

When in doubt, wear protection! Good luck and glad your undetectable!!!!! HUGS!

Hep C is spread by blood to blood contact. So unless there was an open wound it's very unlikely to spread it during sex. Just always wear protection.
