All dogs have the territorial instinct and they are curious about all smells .....your puppy will grow out of this phase of dog life and when your Yorkie is about 8 or 9 months it would be a very good thing to take him/her to obedience/training ---- both of you will be happier ---the dog wants to do what pleases you and you get a well behaved "baby".........bueno suerte.........Wally

Hi Mackey, This is a natural thing for dogs. There is sooo many smells on the ground and in the air, your little guy just can't help hisself. The first thing a dog with do when they go outside is smell the ground for that right spot to go potty. This is just natural, and i wouldn't get onto him for a natural thing.

why would u want to stop her, when dogs sniff its like you reading you morning paper, keep in mind dog noses are very keen, i have four dogs & when they go outside its like their noses are glued to the ground, nothing wrong with sniffing, we pick up the phn., the paper, or tlk. on the internet, dogs sniff, finding out who was "there" a couple min.'s ago, be glad its a girl, boys pee
on every tree, corner, etc. just to leave the scent
