I have been going to the gym now for 6 weeks. I do the elyptical 2 to 3 days a week and I lift weights 2 days a week. I have a weight lifting partner and we have a whole routine. When I am on the elyptical I burn around 300 to 340 calories in 30 mins. The problem I am having is that I am not losing any weight. I can tell I am toning a little bit, but the scale is not showing it. What can I do to speed my weight loss along in the gym?

You're building muscle. The first step in any workout program is to use up fat and put on muscle -- muscle weighs more than fat so initially you will not lose weight.

DO NOT LET THAT DISCOURAGE YOU! It's perfectly normal. You will see weight loss sometime soon. For now, concentrate on the toning and loss of inches (not pounds). It sounds like you're doing everything right -- keep up the good work(out).

I think there are a few possible reasons you aren’t loosing weight. First, I would up your gym attendance to at least 5 times a week and do some major cardio (you are breathing heavily but are still able to speak; for about 30 - 40min) Cardio is key for weight-loss. Lifting weights is great for toning and building muscle (which will help to boost your metabolism) but cardio is the key to really dropping the pounds.
Also, as great as exercising is, it won’t work all on its own. You need to be aware of what you’re eating (just eating reasonably, no major diet, will really help with weight-loss) And as surprising as it is, getting at least 8 glasses of water a day will make a world of difference. Also make sure you are getting lots of sleep (aim for 8 full hours a night) and try to keep stress levels to a minimum. Being stressed out all the time can actually slow down your weight-loss.
Successfully losing weight involves a number of aspects of life and to get the results you’re looking for, you have to be aware of the little things, like snacking, staying hydrated and push yourself at the gym.
Good Luck!

Muscles weigh more than fat does, not only do you need a work out routine you also need to eat, 5 to 6 small meals a day. You need to eat protein, carbs, veggies, and fruit. Stay away from any soda's diet or otherwise, stay away from salt, sugars, dairy, take a vitamin supplement. Just cutting out all salt that includes buying foods that have salt added you will lose anywhere from 5-15 lbs in the first week. When you go shopping look at the ingrediant label not the nutritional label. If it says salt or sugar leave it in the store. All foods have natural sodium. Drink at least 64 oz. of water per day. Trust me this will help. I have lost 70 lbs. already since mid July.

Easy. You are building muscle, and muscles weighs more than fat. Don't worry about your weight. Watch your measurements. If the inches are coming off and your body is firm, who cares how much weight you have lost??

The toning is what's most important, as muscle weighs more than fat.
You will notice a difference in your size over time.
The scale certainly does not give the best picture of what is going on in your body.
Keep up the good work.

Nutrition is just as important. Also, when you lift, remember you are building muscle and muscle weighs more than fat. Most fitness pros will tell you to dump the scale and pay attention to how your clothes fit. Good luck.
