Inordinate guilt, which is what a guilty conscience is, was NOT given to us by a loving creator god in order to keep us from hurting each other. No, it was emblazoned on the thought patterns of people the world over by monotheists as a means of exerting power and control over people.A way of keeping the sheep in line.Anyone who thinks that a healthy sense of empathy/responsiblity must cross over into the realms of guilt should go on a tour of the nations many overcrowded mental institutions to witness first hand it's "Purifying"effects.

What do you mean by guilty consciousness? Feeling guilty and having a conscious are good things, because it means that you are a human being. However, there is no point in feeling guilty if you do nothing to rectify the decision and yourself. People aren't free of guilt consciousness. That only happens when you correctly repent and make a change. If you don't repent, then you are still guilty for your sins. And the Bible tells you time and time again that you will Reap exactly what you Sow. But I still don't really understand the question.

Guilty consciousness is none of good, bad or ugly. Half the battle is won as soon as one realizes that some thing is wrong. Guilt consciousness is a process preceding amends. To err is human. To come out of it, say sorry, and doing amends is a process inspired by the divine. Guilt consciousness is an important step (of self correction) in that direction

The guilty conscience comes from doing something you knew was not right when you did it, and this is where the Holy Spirit comes in. It is his conviction of you that makes you feel the guilt. If you pray for forgivness of what you did, then if you are a true believer, the guilt will go away. Works for me.

The Conscience is Put there By The Maker!
It's part of The Maker left with us to act as a Guiding Light in certain situations.

I never thought of it like that. Jesus provided a way for believers to ask forgiveness for their bad deeds. Which also provided a way for the clearing of ones conscience I suppose. Good point!

I think a guilty concience is just the Holy Spirit nudging at you to not do something or to fix something you know is wrong.
