Is it simply because people are more likely to riot if Islam is made fun of, even though Christians and Muslims worship the same god. When God is made fun of in the context of Christianity, it's considered normal and even encouraged. If moderate muslims want their religion to be known as peaceful, why not condemn the terrorists instead of justifying their actions as "standing up to the west" or as "retaliation" for insults to their religion, especially since most of the terrorists' victims in Iraq are defenseless Iraqis rather than U.S. soldiers. Being peaceful does not mean that you're only peaceful to people who don't offend you, because what does that prove.

As Daniel Pipes says, the basic message is that because of Muslims' violent reaction, Islamic law rules over Westerners too "because you no longer have the privilege to say what you will about Islam, the Prophet, and the Qur'an."
Peace in Islam simply means the absence of war. That will be accomplished when everyone has converted to Islam or has been subdued.
Christians worship the God of Abraham and Muslims worship the God of Abraham. Is that the same? But Christians believe in the trinity and believe that Jesus is the Son of God who died for the sins of mankind. What does the Qur'an say about this?
The major reason that Christianity and Islam are totally incompatible is because in Christianity Jesus Christ is considered to be part of the godhead (trinity). Jesus is the Son of God. This is anathema to Islam. In Islam it is shirk to worship any deity other than Allah. Muslims never call Allah as "father".
4:171 Oh People of the book! Do not (overstate and) exaggerate your religious beliefs; do not say anything except the truth about Allah. The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary was in fact (nothing more than) the messenger of Allah and His word which He cast upon Mary. (Jesus was) a soul created by Him. So, believe in Allah and His messenger. Christians have been known to be pretty upset with criticism. The Da Vinci Code was picketed and banned in places, the "Piss Christ" sculpture in New York caused quite a stir, and Pat Robertson has been advocating bombing people for years.
Not to mention the crusaders, conquistadors, clinic bombers, and members of the Kansas School Board.
And you have to remember: standing up to the west doesn't necessarily carry any religous meaning. There is a pretty damn good political reason why Middle Easterners might want the west to stop interfering with Middle Eastern internal politics.
