Here in Alberta, the dealer must inspect and disclose any problems to the customer for every used car that they retail to the public.

Oregon has a lemon law giving you 30 days to return a car that has problems regardless of new or used, private or dealership.

So pretty much just because the paper says "as is" it really isn't and the buyer does have some rights.

very strong in Florida...I think it all started there...because of all the crocked car sales and used car dealerships! its called the Lemon law, and every time you buy a car there give you the booklet with it!

In most states, and always from a private party, "As is" means just that. You have had a chance to look, to test drive, and have your mechanic look if you so desire. If you buy it as is, and it falls into a million pieces when you get it home, you own a million pieces and have no recourse.
