the best thing to do is get is wet and put conditioner on the knot...brush the knot from the bottom loseenting the hair out of the knot....it will take a while...be patient and dont try to brish to fast...it could mat it up worse...if this does not work you may want to try annd bring her to a salon for them to try..and if they cannot get it out...they will know how to cut it to where is will not be so obvious...i do not think you should try to cut it at home

BABY OIL!!
1. Pour a small amount of baby oil onto your hands and apply to tangles.
2. Rub throughout the tangle to distribute the oil.
3. Run a comb through the hair, pulling gently through the knots. (try starting from the bottom of the hair first)
4. Shampoo to clean out oil.

Cover her hair in conditioner then let her head soak in water (not under a foist) for at least 15 min. While her hair is under water carefully try to ease it out. If that doesn't work just get her hair styled so there isn't a chunk missing. Also try kna0831's idea

Patience - and maybe you can put some conditioner or detangler on it an comb slowly from the ends. If you do need to cut some try just a little snip and see if it starts to loosen up.

Try wetting her hair & putting lots of conditioner on it, then comb.
You may need to buy a detangler & do the same thing.
It will take a long time to detangle, but you won't have to cut it if you both can sit there long enough to get it out. Good Luck!

Olive oil, peanut oil or baby oil should lubricate the hair enough to allow you to untangle the knot.
Please don't cut it before you try this.
Poor kid will be mortified if she has to go to school with a hank of hair missing.

I would try pouring baby oil on it to make it really slippery and then have another go at it.
However you may have to accept its beyond repair and use the dreaded scissors.
Good luck

try rubbing peanut butter on it. The peanut oils work as a conditioner, and loosen up the hair.
