My new boyfriend just joined the army and is going to be deployed in Iraq. Now i know i can't follow him there, but is it possible for me to follow him overseas if he were based somewhere safer? And if it is possible how could i go about doing it?

Typically yes.
Several obsticals for you since you are not married --
First getting there..You need a visa etc. I would suggest going as an exchange student. You can attend college overseas while you are there as an exchange student or University of Maryland.
Second finding a place to live. He can choose, normally, to live on or off base. But a lot will depend upon his rank (income) as to what he can afford -- a military officer can easily afford off-base housing while and E2 or E3 might have more difficulty and would have to stay at the dorms on base (where you are not able to stay). But, if an exchange student, the university will help provide you housing options.
Third. Employment. This might be a bit more difficult but you could easily apply for jobs on base. THis would be your best option unless you are fluent in the language AND customs, but even then you will probably need a work visa of sorts which would cause problems if you are a student.
I have not done what you are considering, however I lived overseas (as my wife) for well over 12 years. It's a great way to see the world.
Last...the poster is correct that some locations are considered "remote" and do not allow family; these assignments are very infrequent and typically for one year.

Best of luck.

Yes.. if you pay your own way there.
It would be alot easer for him to get a pass to meet you someplace like Dubai or Kuwait City.

you go over there on your own dime and stay outside the base but thats pretty expensive....other than that...you have to be married and then sometimes they still dont let the wives go.
