I've dealt with lots of grumpy old people, and I can tell you most of it has to do with the fact they are just very lonely. Instead of trying to make new friends they push them away. Try to ignore the rudeness and be her friend. If that doesn't work, just try to avoid her. There is usually a reason for the unhappiness, but you may never know why.

Just over look her, and try not to deal with her if you do not have to. however, if you must deal with her, say something like gosh, i am sorry you are having a bad day. i hope it gets better for you.if she is old, you never know what is going on in her life. she was probably young and evil, now she is old and evil. Or maybe she is having a lot of issues. Smile and be polite and see if that works. Sometimes a kind word can be helpful. Good luck and God bless

You deal with grumpy people, old or young, with class. Never stoop to their levels of grumpiness because you will find yourself becoming too much like them. Be kind and you win. Smile and you confuse them. They become disarmed because throughout their lives, they are not used to being treated decently since they generally elicit anger in people they meet.

If she's your mother or your grandmother you treat her nicely, with respect and try not to make waves.

If she's not either of these women....why bother?
