Even experts find digital video formats confusing, becoz most video files consist of two elements:the container and the codec used inside it. However, some caution serves well while installing any codec, since certain ones are known to be incompatibilities with some media players. So, if u r a techie and have any information on the said, plez tell me which is the best MEDIA PLAYER? Is it VLC MEDIA PLAYER, MPLAYER,...............!

I am not a certified expert but yes I use the media players a lot.
I really can't say which media player is the best. The best in my opinion would be the one which supports maximum no. of file extensions and audio/video codecs. This I am yet to discover.

As for the moment, I use Windows media player 9 (I didn't like no.10). As an alternative, I also use VLC and RealMedia players(when the files do not open in Windows media player). I have X-Vid(DivX) codecs installed. I tried K-Lite codec pack. With this, some files which didn't play, started playing but some files which played earlier stopped playing. Similarly, the thumbnail view of video files was also affected. I have uninstalled it.

Some of my colleagues have reported that Nero6 has a very good player which also supports DVD play.

I don't know of any media player experts, but "best" is a relative term. One man's meat is another's poison.

Use what suits you and if you can't play a file because of a codec issue, use a different one. I have three media players on my system.
