I'm 60, and my first love died when we were 17. I still sometimes put flowers on her grave (Cherokee Memorial Park, Harney Lane, Lodi, CA). I still remember her.

It all depends how long you were with that person for i think. If it was a long standing partnership then it can take a long time.It also depends on how deeply you felt for that person. In my experience it took some time because i was with that man for 4 years and 2 kids by him.I left him which made it a tad easier to cope with but your first love is always the one that will stay with you for life.I have now got to the way of thinking that if my current husband left me.....whats the worst that can happen?? i get upset....i get up and brush myself down and start again....after all you can be a strong person on your own.You don't have to have a partner to BE someone.Independence is a strong feature and a respected one,its also hard to get but once you have it never let it go.If your left on your own the world will not explode, you wont break out in some incurable disease and your life wont end.It goes on but what you make of it is up to you...are you independent or do you have to have a partner to survive??? if you answer that.....your over them already so move on and be strong....enjoy YOUR life.

It all depends, luv...
First loves are the hardest, and some will say you never trully recover from those.
My hubby says his first love "crushed" him so bad when she left him, and it took a good 2 or 3 years (by his count) to "get over her". He says he wasn't really "over her" per se, but he was comfortable enough to be OK with him being alone without her... Funny story too, since he said that at the time, it felt like on the very day he began to feel "good" again and ready to take on the world as a celibate man, that's when he met his next GF! I think it's normal since he probably began to have self confidence again and that's what attracted the other girl to jump on him and declare her love/lust to him.
But to be honest, there's no cure, and no precise time frame. Some get over lost loves in days, weeks... Others it takes years, and some just never recover!
But like I said, the first one is the worst, so please be patient and remember that time will heal those wounds eventually. Just try not to concentrate on it 24/7 and the healing process should work faster!

That depends on how long you were together. Two years? Two months? Two days or Two hours. If it was 2 hours i'd leave the money on the dresser and forget about it. But seriously, you never get over a true love, it's always in the back of your mind, I think your question should have been, How long does it take before the hurt goes away............Never

How about 16 years later, you're minding your own business at work, and in walks her little brother. The first thing I did was cringe a little, but I figured ' hell, he was like 7 when I was bangin her. he don't know me '. After a week or two, I started asking detailed questions about the family. It was a riot !!

idk, seeing i have never been in love, basically i keep one foot out the door, but to get over someone you love, ive only had to do this when they have died... its tough but realize your better off now than before, future isn't written, there is a reason even though it is unknown now, but for now it might just be a while before you let this go and move on, but dont let it affect your daily life....
