After years of dithering over political correctness with Muslims and Islam, Europe is waking up to a different morning. Confrontation, indeed even provocation, is their preferred approach to the Muslims in their midst.
My European tour made it eminently clear that Western Europeans — if not their more liberal, compromised ruling and business elites — believe that for Muslims living in the West, it's either Western ways or the highway.

Are we in the USA headed for a confrontation with Islam, as they seem to be doing in Europe?

Yes, and that's the vary reason we need to clean out the house and senate, especially the pitiful PC puppets, of whom most have D's at the end of their names:(

If there's going to be a confrontation, this could be an excuse to use, but most likely in the end, it's about power and wealth. I would'nt blame Islam in general, being like all religions, there are a few extremists that ruin it for the rest of the bunch. For the most part, the Muslims that I know just want to go on with there lives without interference. They want jobs, money, and family like the rest of us.
As for any major future confrontations, it depends who fires the first missile (nuclear that is). This could come from some small country like North Korea, if they're crazy enough. This alone could trigger a major response, causing other countries to jump in out of a panic.

I don't really think that would happen here. There is such a small amount of Muslims in this country as is, and most of them are really moderate Muslims, not religious extremists by ANY means. Many of them who have moved here moved here to get away from their countries and religious oppression, so why would they force that on the people here?

I do think that there is a problem in Europe, and I think a lot of the problem is that the European countries are extremely homogenous and nationalistic and mixing cultures is not something that comes naturally to them, if at all. America has a long tradition of mixing many different cultures... we are the melting pot (especially here in NYC) and I don't think that there'd be a big polarization of the Muslim communities and the rest of the US. In Europe it is more that there are the white Europeans, then there are Gypsies (which have always been discriminated against and have NEVER fit in to mainstream culture, even today!) and now there are these Muslims coming in from North Africa or the Middle East. The different groups tend to stick to themselves and not integrate really. They have their own neighborhoods and whatever.

In the US, there's much more mixing. At least here in NYC I walk down the street and have no idea what I am even surrounded by... am I looking at someone who is Jewish, Christian, Buddhist, Muslim... am I looking at a Jamaican person, are they from Africa? Hispanic? Phillipino? Italian?

Anyway, I think that the diversity that already exists in America and our ability to handle it would safeguard this country from the problems that Europe is seeing.

Islam has slowly crept in every country. They slowly take over very country. History proves this.

Muslims are here for 2 reasons. They want western money and trash their tradition.
or
They are here to help infiltrate the west. Bush knows this.
This is the ONLY thing stopping Bush from smoke'n Iran now. The "time" is not right.

U.S.A. and every nation on earth WILL be Islam, during the tribulation.

Our only hope is, to keep the bulk out with terrorists until rapture.

This is the way, it really is.

I think the present cultural confrontation in Europe is heading for a meltdown for several reasons:

1. The geography is vastly smaller.
2. The cultures are more defined.
3. There is more at stake- the historical significance is more pronounced and the proximities are closer.
4. The laws against racial provocation are more defined- leading to more heated resentment.

Will it happen in the U.S.? It may, but it won't happen for another generation. Our laws concerning freedom of speech are more defined, and our geography is more open. Small towns are more critical of cultural invasion, and cities are more open to immigrant communities.

We've become more polarized culturally and politically here in the U.S. I think it will happen, but the conflagration in Europe will have a definite influence here, so it remains to be seen.

Europeans have always been a little xenophobic. Most of the big wars have been fought over European nationalism. However, if a esterner moves to Saudi Arabia and his wife goes out without a hijab, she will be arrested. Non muslim are expected to adapt and integrate when they move to muslim countries, and it should be the same when a muslim emigrates to a non muslim country.

It's possible. The conflicts domestically and globally reflect those of the pre-World War (both) eras. I feel we might have a civil war between Christian Dominionists (who seek to turn the US into a Christian theocracy) and secularists, with the Muslims fighting the dominionists. If it were to happen, it would be bloody as all hell.

I hope this doesn't happen, but it seems to be getting closer every day.

The Islamic crusade is in full swing. I they can make England fall to the sword, they can do the same with America. Or, so they reason. Fortunately, we have the right to bear arms in the USA. Kicking our a** will be a lot tougher than most European countries.

I live in Britain where we take multiculturalism seriously
Here there is a big split over it. Hell of a lot of people realise our dumb *** leaders have artificially created the them or us mentality. There is no definition of 'british' and we don't have a constitution so they are wrong to attempt this
I recon the confrontation is inevitable with our current leadership but many people will want to reach out to muslims knowing that we must engage the moderate ones

The thing about living in a melting pot is that you're supposed to be assimilated while at the same time keeping your own flavor. Both sides have forgotten this. One extreme wants everyone to do and be as them. The other extreme wants everyone to be seperated by belief systems and race regardless of the cost to civic unity. Muslims, Christians and all the rest of us must find the balance if we ever want to live in peace.

The US will have to put a check on the behavior of Muslims. Did you read about the Muslim felon who escaped prison wearing a Hijab?
US Muslims are growing bolder every day; if you give them a break, they will be demanding arabic laws right here in the Good Ole USA.
