different sects of Islam have different beliefs regarding the role of women. some ban women from entering a mosque, whilst others (e.g.Ahmadiyya Muslim Community) actively encourage women to participate and set aside large areas of the mosque solely for their use - especially at busy times.

the sect which runs the particular mosque you are referring to may have different beliefs and it is a better idea to ask them direct.

Edit: originally in Islam women were not banned from the mosque. the Holy Prophet of Islam (saw) was leading Muslims in prayer and actually cut the prayers short when he heard a child crying. He thought it best to do that as the mother may be caused distress at not being able to best tend to her child during the prayer. so clearly women prayed in the mosque as well as the men at that time.

mosque is the french term for masjid (literally meaning a place where you perform 'sajada' i.e. prostrate in prayer). over the centuries people came to call the Muslim place of worship a mosque whilst Muslims themselves still refer to it as a masjid

All women are allowed into the Masjid. I do not know where you have gotten your information.

It was once thought that women should pray at home and did not need to go to the Masjid.

But that is a culture thing not Islam.

OK just finished reading an article and it was a cultural thing.

Do not deprive women of their share of the Masjid (4:891)

Difficult question, a suppose you mean Mosque, if it had been moque it could have been a Mini Moke, in which case their robes may have been lifted by the wind in this open top, open sided vehicle exposing their ankles in public, therefore denying them entry into the Garden of Eden after death.
Alternately if it were Mosque, then Muslim women aint good enough to go in to worship, Muslims dont believe in equality, that is a Christian beleif, so its Ok for women to be treated as second class citizens, or third come to think of it. So it aint just Blackburn it is world wide.

I've lived in Blackburn, and believe me, it's not just Muslim women who are treated as second class citizens. In fact the Muslim women are probably treated a lot better than some of the non-Muslim women. Muslim women are not banned from going to the Mosque. They have a special area, but then that's true of Synagogues too, and no one would dare to suggest that Jewish women are second class citizens - unless they want hot chicken soup poured over them.

They ought to have been allowed. There is religious support for women going to mosques. Some traditional, fundamentalists do not permit as they quote centuries old opinion of some Imam, who was not the Prophet nor a companion of the Prophet. It may have been due to the social conditions prevailing in the days of the Imam !

Im not sure about this particular case, but generally it is allowed for women to go to the mosque.

however it is OBLIGATORY for men to pray five times in the mosque at certain specific times, it is not obligatory for women to pray in the mosque, but they MUST pray somewhere. this makes it easier on the woman, as she does not have hardship upon her to always go to mosque when she is busy with other duties which may not be ideal to go away such as raising a young child.

usually mosques only have enough space to cater for men, and because it is obigatory for them, the priority goes to men, however larger mosques usuallay cater for women too.

Mosque is the english word for Masjid, which means place of prayer.

EDIT: Islam is just, it does not mistreat women, some people think women are not equal to men, but this is genral, because it is a FACT that women and men are not the same. it would not be fair to give a woman a job which does not suit her physical abilty. likewise for a man......

Because the trustees at your mosque are some bunch of sexists and ignorants bigots and they will be asked of their forbidding women to the mosque.

I am lucky that in my area (North London) our women are allowed.

Move down to London.

And for your info: Women are always allowed to go to the Mosque. Islam has never denied women of that right.
