Seems like a lot of people on the R/S forum love to give the old thumbs down just because they feel grumpy, mad at the world and overly sensitive about who they are and what offends them. So this question is for all you who get a jolly pushing that thumbs down button. Have at it and push away. Will you give my question the thumbs down?

Spooky shares my philosophy. The only bad answer is the one that is a mile long copied and pasted 'epistle'. I give it thumbs down to get it out of my way.

I don't normally rate questions, and I rarely rate answers. In most instances, what is posted is opinion, and all are equally valid.

I will thumbs down the excessively long copy/paste in order to collapse the posting and make it easier to scroll through the answers.

Yes, I do. But not to those that I just disagree with. If it is a real question, and it belongs, even if I don't agree, I usually don't do anything or give it a thumbs up. If it is just to be obnoxious, or to bash anyone's beliefs, then it's a thumbs down.

I never gives thumbs down for questions or for answers. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But I do give thumbs up for what I may think is a good question or answer, even if it doesn't necessarily coincide with my own beliefs. An honest and respectful Q&A always deserves equal respect.

I got a bunch of thumbs-down on some recent questions of mine that asked everyone who wanted to answer what they would do in various situations:

1) Deny your beliefs or be killed?

2) Deny your beliefs and receive a quick, painless death rather than a slow, painful one?

3) Deny your beliefs AND die in order to save someone else?

I got a lot of 'thumbs down's on the second question. :<

I only give a question a 'thumbs down' if it contains blatantly incorrect information or is bigoted.

no, I don't, but I do find it irritating. I don't give thumbs down for opinions I disagree with, either. Only if someone has bad information that isn't true. (I do give thumbs up if someone has a good point, though.)

I wonder how many thumbs down I will get for my answer?

I give my fair share of both. I also leave a great deal of compliments to those I share sentiments with. Thumbs-down to me, has nothing to do with my mood, just my convictions. I have only been offended by one question. It was: "Does anyone know if Steve Irwin was saved?" on the day after he died!

no, I don't thumbs down a question or an answer, but I do give a thumbs up to the answers I appreciate.

It seems to me that people give thumbs-downs if something is posted that they disagree with, but can't argue against it.

I give thumbs-downs to those who are moronic, egotistical, self-righteous, or tunnel-visioned. I've given thumbs-up and thumbs-down to people of all faiths. It's not your faith that matters; if your content is stupid, I'll give it a thumbs-down.

I also report people who merely preach behind the guise of, "Are you going to Heaven?" It's spam.

Yes, but I also take it upon myself to give positive validation to those who have gotten thumbs down for no good reason. I like to think of myself as the Robin Hood of R&S.

I just gave you a thumbs-up because I'm contrary like that.

I actually like the feature. It's a way to express disapproval without e-mailing the person (which may be scary) or reporting (which seems like overkill for mere disagreement.)
